In the last test we used Warrican as a nightwatchman. Previously we have used Roach. maybe I am missing something but i simply don't understand the rational. I get we want to protect a senior batsman - but it also moves the tail down a place, often severely limiting our more able late order a chance to contribute later in the innings, as they run out of partners. It also gives the opposition an almost certain early breakthrough on the following morning (if they managed to survive the night before). So my question is, why not use decent late order batsmen? Someone who actually could build an innings - for example Holder, Cornwall or Joseph. If they get out in the evening its not such a blow as losing a top order batsman but if they survive they have a proper opportunity to build an innings and cause problems for the opposition... especially if they are attacking players (which those 3 are).

Not a fan 9f the night watcher. But your argument can be looked into.

Me too... id prefer in most cases not to use it. But if going to use it, at least utilise it well.
