I know plenty have commented on the possible selection of Gayle for the T20. But why bring back a 40+ aged player instead of giving youth a chance.

The only logical reason I could think of for bringing back Gayle is to place him as Captain and hope his "World Boss" image rubs off on the other players

I love Gayle, the player and really thankful for all he has done for West Indies cricket AND would pay to see him play first class cricket - but coming back to the West Indies team at such a late time in his life, I don't understand the logic

It's not like he has been setting the world alight recently!!!

Because gayle is making runs. He had a spectacular run with Kings XI in September/october and did very well in his outings in the PSL. The man is pure quality. If he's making runs and was an integral part of our last three WT20 campaigns, why drop him?

Johnson Charles is also making runs, Ravi and Fidel are taking wickets - let's see if they are included in the squad

BTW in his last 9 matches, he has passed 50 twice, and 6 innings of below 10....so that is not a lot of runs or any consistency

And to be honest, I expect if Gayle plays in all matches, I expect he will put in at least one match winning performance - he usually does. And honestly I am not against his pick as he is an entertainer and has been a great servant to WI Cricket - it's just at this late stage in his career, surely we have younger players we should be giving a chance to, so they can develop for the World Cup

I watch the highlight on youtube on gayle 64 runs in his last psl match.

gayle was dropped 3 times for the 64 runs. Including 2 easy dolly catches. gayle should have out cheaply.

Gayle is not the same as 5 yrs ago.

Gayle batted 7 times in the florida USA t20 recently and only make a good score once.

Yep - Saw that too. They dropped some dolly's and he won't get that many chances in the World Cup

DUMB.......that would be a perfect word to describe hetmeyer....even lance gibbs would agree. the dude is an expert on the art of giving your wicket away. Hooper was the pioneer though

This might well be Gayle's swan song series in Windies colours. The selectors might well want to give his legion of fans the opportunity to see him and express their thanks. If that's the case then kudos to the selectors. Gayle is so far the greatest T20 batsman. Let him leave the game with no ill feeling.The treatment of Sarwan and to a lesser extent Shiv still irks me.

Just imagine if he did not give his wicket away so much, he might be better than Lara.
I think for your peace of mind he should continue to give his wicket away so he does not come up to Lara's level!!!!!

You would not find me bigging up mediocre players from Guyana like Barnwell and Johnson but everybody is class as long as they are from Trinbago,even if they are Lincoln Roberts or Suruj Ragoonath.

Whoever the selectors would have picked if Gayle wasn't available!!! There is Powell, King, Lewis, Simmons, Campbell and others.
