ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today announced the West Indies squad for the first of the two-match Test series at home against Sri Lanka. The Test squad features several players who recently participated in the 2-0 victorious Test series in Bangladesh.
Two senior players who did not play in the Bangladesh series, all-rounder Jason Holder and left-handed batsman Darren Bravo, have returned to the Test squad which will be led by Kraigg Brathwaite. The first Test will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium from March 21-25. The Selection Panel also named the squad for the CWI President’s XI to face Sri Lanka in a two-day warm-up match at Coolidge Cricket Ground on March 17-18.

Last time I checked, despite his post-Big Idiot struggles, Bravo still had a better average than almost all his rivals for a place in the WI batting lineup

Bravo potentially is still best batsman in the WI, he is still relatively young. Hamilton is a reserve player, but he is the best w/k in the WI at the moment.

But can JH bat? No team in world cricket picks a keeper solely to keep. Shai, DaSilva and Dowrich can all bat and possibly make the team with such alone.

The match between WI President X1 and Sri Lanka will be interesting with some WI players on the team looking to get back into the test team.

I'll keep Bravo, but Hammie certainly not.
No, VOR. This has nothing to do with his being a Dottie.

VOTreason will always find a reason for a Dottie being left out of the team/sqaud.Or find a reason to justify his selection regardless of of stats.

Bravo has been on a serious decline since the tour of New Zealand and I have seen no hint of recovery, so I am surprised to see him still there. What is his average since he returned to the side?

We definitely need a #3 batsman, but I am surprised to see him there ahead of Brooks or Hety

In 2019 he played 9 tests and averaged 13. In 2020 4 tests and averaged 8. Go figure

No way he should play before Chase who can at least give overs and bat 7.
We really going ask Bravo to bat 3??!!

will Hetty and Hope be discarded the bottom line is non of these guys can bat with Hope, hope should be encourage to open in test, he is much better coming
at the top he forms too many preconceptions coming at the middle thus gets im self in problems

Hope started his Test career mostly opening and he failed badly, most of the times Hope made runs in Test cricket was after the openers made a decent start.

I agree with this Test squad.
Batting Test averages to date:
Kraigg - 32
Campbell - 25 (count himself lucky)
Lil Bravo - 36
Bonner - 57
Blackwood - 32
Mayers - 87
Da Silva - 39
Holder - 32
These guys deserve a run. IMHO, it's last chance saloon for Campbell.

Several WI commentators have said it, that Hamilton is the best behind the stumps at the moment, but his batting is inconsistent so he will not get pick in front of DaSilva, Dowrich or Hope when they are available. That's why I stated he is a reserve player, he is there to cover in case the W/K becomes injures.

Bravo was interrupted by management nonsense and those 2 yrs have placed him in a very difficult position but the team must be key. Given recent performance it is difficult to pick him ahead of several players eg Hope. Batsmen must be very capable in terms of spin and have the patience and confidence to put together a long innings.

Surely Shai Hope should be in the picture as a batsman and reserve keeper long before Hammie.

In reply to dayne At least you are a reasonable thinking Yardie cannot say the same for Budhead. Jahmar Hamilton is the best Glovesman in the Region! If he can get his batting together he will be a handful. He is overly aggressive with the bat early up.
Not sure why they could not get Kieran Powell in the Pres XI squad.

In reply to moneybrain Why would you make Hope a reserve keeper for Test cricket? You just want to finish his test career right? With all that money you have surely you could buy yourself a brain.

In reply to natty_forever Jeffrey Dujon said he was the best Wicketkeeper on show in the last Super50 prior to the current one. Add to that he is captaincy material.
