HEADLINE: Evin Lewis giving thought to playing Test cricket

West Indies white-ball opening batsman Evin Lewis said he is mulling playing Test cricket in the near future but concedes that he needs to play more four-day cricket before he can make that step.
The 29-year-old Trinidadian, an instinctively attacking batsman, has been more pragmatic in his approach during the ongoing three-match series against Sri Lanka which has resulted in scores of 65, 103 and 13 at an average of 60.3. However, notwithstanding batting into the 38th over on Friday, Lewis revealed after the West Indies won by five-wickets, that he plans to bat even deeper into each innings.
Against that background, he was asked whether this more mature approach to opening the batting, means he would consider opening for the West Indies in Test cricket, especially in light of the fact that neither of the current openers – John Campbell or newly appointed Captain Kraigg Brathwaite – have been particularly convincing.
“I’ve gotten that question from many people. It’s actually something that I have thought about. The only problem is I haven’t played four-day cricket in a while now and I am not sure four-day cricket is going to be played this year,” he said revealing that even members of his family have been encouraging him to give it a go.

Evin I like your new desire to pursue test cricket and equally like how you understand that you need to play more four day cricket to prepare yourself for Test cricket. Looking forward to see you take on this new challenge

Does not have the temperament to play the longer form, t-20 and one dayers are his forte.

Respect to Lewis. The more of our younger talented ODI and T20 cricket want to take on test cricket it can only be a good for WI cricket. For me and most fans in the region Lewis is more of a ODI and T20 batsman but if he is willing to show another dimension of his game and can prove at first class level he can be an option for test cricket then I will later accept as being proven wrong

Lewis should do the right thing and stick to modern cricket.
Leave archaic test cricket for the rocking chair romantics.

It was about lewis. You said he didn''t have the temperament for tests. I pointed out that his temperament(which in cricket is 90% attention span) is much greater than Hetmeyer's, who you thought was unfairly dropped .

I hope the PCL starts in April and Lewis plays in at least a couple of rounds. He's shown that he can construct an innings in List-A, I'd like to see him replicate that in the longer format.
