Phillip strikes
Phillip strikes again 51/4

Phillip bowled well in the recent The Best v The Rest game as well ..... Harding is about a yard and a half slower than a couple of seasons ago.
that is a very pacy attack...Gabriel Philips and Harding all can go at 140kph
In reply to analyst-kid
111-5 now
Phillip 3-35
AK.... the last few times that Ive seen Harding he looks well down on pace.... any idea what (if anything) is wrong with him ?
In reply to analyst-kid
Phillip has pleasantly surprised me ... he looked very good in the Best v Rest game & has again looked very good so far here.
Dog in the field
In reply to robbo
When was this game? I know about the Best vs Best match, but Phillip did not play in that match
Edged thru the slips for 4 off Phillip.
Bowling some really good deliveries but too many bad balls inbetween.
In reply to Logic
Ahhhh... my bad ... Im getting confused with McSween which bearing In mind hes a left armer is quite an achievement
I must admit that Hamilton looks very good behind the stumps, if he could get his batting up then he would be considered for selection, notwithstanding VOD support.
In reply to robbo
These Bajan bowling coaches tend to encourage the express pacers to concentrate on line length and movement...I dont think Harding had lost pace atall
Andy Roberts has criticised them for this.
Good to see the very young Anderson Phillip taking some wickets. Taking advantage of the opportunity
In reply to analyst-kid
Yeah, your right.
I think he was hitting 133-138kph in the odi against Bangladesh on what probably wouldn't be a pacers wicket.
I think he's more like Cummins and Roach than Best or Edwards.
Not sure what pace Chemar Holder can hit.
Chase taking his 3rd wicket, he looks so unassuming but yet always incline to take wickets and will continue to be the nemesis of Cornwall who although deserves selection, has to compete with Chase's all-rounder ability.
Philip was hitting 146 k effortlessly in the final odi but this was not being picked up be the commies.
yes he had some poor balls but massive raw talent that with good coaching could be very very good
In reply to Conorboy
Once he continue his development and is being guided by the right coaching, he can be a regular for the WI in the future
Moseley gawn...
9/1
In reply to Conorboy
Really??
In reply to FanAttick
He is a waste
In reply to FanAttick
They should be trying Hodge.

I do not see Phillip as a potential successful test match bowler. He utilizes too much energy in his run up and thus is unlikely to become much faster. He does little with the ball. Mind you he will probably be successful in our regional competitions but do not look to him doing much for the West Indies.I am sure he will play at some point though.
Obed McKoy looks like a clever bowler and may well be fairly successful in white ball cricket. Nial Smith has potential and room for growth He is clearly well coached probably from his Dad but we will have to wait to see how he goes.
In reply to Dukes
Agreed. Seales, McSween, Chemar Holder and Nial Smith are the ones to watch...
Phillip and Oshane Thomas have to work on their approach to the wicket...Thomas does that jump in his delivery stride that saps his energy..
Hope looking good...35*
In reply to Dukes
Please to leave Phillip alone.
I have a lot time for him and expect he will come good
Hope should learn to duck and not hope to hook
In reply to Dukes
Despite your objection, Phillip still took three wickets today. So shoud I just see that as he got lucky today?. Or is it a case of regardless if he takes 10 wickets in a match we must ignore his potential and think about your concerns about him?
In reply to FanAttick
Interesting... Hope is batting with an open stance off an off-stump guard.

In reply to Ewart
Technical adjustment...looking good but this is a dead bed and a lackluster Sri attack...
In reply to Ewart
I saw this also.
In reply to Ewart
I noticed that and wondered about that.He probably would not do that in England.
In reply to Dukes Phillips bowl badly during the ODI because he was over worked
hence this is where In shaped came into play. He just got tired.
In reply to Ewart
Hope has always had a slightly open stance, but his stance today definitely was more open, especially against the bowler coming around the wicket. The off stump guard is very much a new thing though.
In reply to DukesThis is something both Desmond Haynes and Shiv did. I recall Haynes made this adjustment to counter the deadly inswinging yorkers of Waqar and the swing of Wasim - hope it works for him. But based on Shiv and Dessie not sure why it wouldn't work in the England
In reply to jahmekyah
How much overs did he bowl?
In reply to natty_forever
What is the score, man
So ah see even when our young bowlers taking wickets and giving good performances people in here still trying to discredit them and saying no future for them in a WI team. Thank goodness the selectors don't bother with allyuh when selecting the WI team
Kyle Mayers making his presence felt...36*
Several spanking cover drives so far...

beautiful shot by brooks
Nice inswinging delivery by Roach for that lbw. SL 6-1. Watching replay of SL 1st innings.
Gabriel bowling fast but wayward with a few beauties mixed in during the first two overs. One delivery was collected by second slip and Hamilton has had a few nice one-handed diving takes down the legside. Second take was so good that Hope and Brooks went over and gave Hamilton high fives.
Roach 2 for 7 after 3 overs. Second batsman caught in slips.
Roach gets another edge that goes wide of third slip for 4 runs. Roach has bowled 3 no balls in so far in this spell
Mayers 49* at better than a run a ball.
Brooks out and Mayers reaches 50

Hammie has to take his batting more seriously. He is way better than his average suggests.
In reply to Yadi He stands as much a chance as your next flavor of the week.
What is the point of a 2 day match? At least 3 days makes sense.
no Jamaicans in this game or the oldtimers series, what is the deal?
In reply to WIForever
I think that the SL decided the type of game needed.
Lara didnt return Roses call
In reply to sudden
He called DEICAN and told him to pack and go to the airport, a ticket would be there for him to fly out. When DEICAN got to the airport Lara said no and sent him back home...
It was a joy watching King Kyle bat today...
In reply to JR_Cool and FanAttick
Thanks. Hope he gives us a quick hundred in the first innings of the first test. We want a frontal assault.
In reply to Dukes
So he cyah learn from some coaching,gi the boy a chance nah why yuh ready to write em off at this stage.I hope you are not right about Philip he in my opinion should platy test cricket.
In reply to granite
I am not writing Phillip off at all.I said he will play test cricket but it is unlikely he would have a prolonged presence in test cricket based on his growth potential in terms of what he does with the ball and natural speed.Currently he is probably a better bowler than Nial Smith. However if you look at Nial Smith's action you could see potential of his speed increasing significantly.Same goes for Chemar Holder. The run up of Mikey Holding is what caused the initial excitement around Mikey Holding. In 1973 he was put to the sword by Fredericks but the experts immediately realized that he was going to be special and 2 years later BINGO.
Phillip will take quite a few regional wickets and as I said he will play test cricket.
Of all the pace bowlers who have been on show recently, Nial Smith has the greatest potential, period.
If I were in a position of decision making, I would be looking to get him to a pace bowler's finishing school ASAP.
In reply to Narper
Thanks Narps
In this period of time the WI have become blessed with numerous potentially good fast bowlers. It is almost like the 80's and 90's again when the WI had so many good fast bowlers that some of them could not make their regional team. I think Phillip is ahead of some of the more familiar fast bowlers, because he could swing the ball with pace, I think the senior guys like Roach and Gabriel might have an early exit because of these new guys coming on the scene.
