We are gonna have a bowl. The pitch has a bit of moisture. Darren Bravo and Jomel Warrican miss out, they did a superb job in Bangladesh but unfortunately miss out today. It's about attitude and discipline - that's the key for me. Very happy personally, we had a good four-day game, so looking forward..

We would've bowled as well. We saw how it behaved in the ODIs as it will get better and better in the later part of the game. The past records will always inspire you but boys are ready to play and give their best shot. Pathum Nissanka will debut. If we can put up 275-300, we will be in a good position.

Pitch report by Courtney Walsh and Samuel Badree:
Brilliant conditions here. The temperature will be in high 20s and humidity in the 60s. Pristine on-field conditions. Batsmen will get value for their shots. There is live grass much different to what we saw in the ODI series. It will be a challenge for the batsmen in the first hour. There is a bit of moisture as well. Nice cricket wicket and expect an entertaining match.

Roach to Karunaratne, FOUR, goes hard for the chirpy drive and gets a healthy outside edge which flies past third slip. Roach has a smile on his face as Karunaratne gets lucky! Sucker ball outside off, no feet from the Sri Lankan captain there and will earn a streaky boundary

I don't disagree. You're right about the batting.
However, having said that, Holder needs to take command of the number seven spot. IMHO, he's not bowling well enough to occupy one of the four bowling spots. He needs to be at seven, and bat to his potential as a genuine allrounder. When he was at eight, that limited the bowling somewhat.
Personally, I would've pushed Bravo up to open the batting instead of Campbell, the way England have done to Crawley. But that's water under the bridge now.

Bravo was not in Bangladesh and the team did well without him.
I do not see the big deal about Bravo. If he is that good let him earn his way back on the team by scoring runs while someone like Campbell continue to fail, or heaven forbid they do not give Mayers and Bonner the run they deserve.

Bravo just as unreliable as the two players you mentioned, as evidenced by his last 10 innings for WI test team, there is nothing to prove that if he was selected, he would have now made runs. Even to judge his performance in the recently warm up game, he was bowled for only 30 runs, so they are all unpredictable.

Roach to Thirimanne, out Oshada Fernando Run Out!! A direct hit and West Indies are already celebrating. Think Oshada is struggling here. Yers, he's well short - OUT is the call. Terrible running from the visitors, was always a dicey single and it's fair to say that Oshada Fernando has been sold a dummy - Thirimanne pushed one in front of cover and called for a quick single, Oshada Fernando did respond immediately, but Brathwaite was quick on the ball, picks it up and breaks the stumps at the striker's end with an underarm throw - Oshada Fernando was always struggling and is caught well short. Replays suggest Oshada did hesitate a bit, but was always a risky singe there.

We don't have Bravo in the team, and that surely has weakened our batting
Bravo did not go to Bangladesh by choice.
However he was in the previous series played in NZ.
How did he strengthen the batting then?
First test: NZ 519 for 7d; WI 138 (bravo 9) and following on WI 247 (Bravo 12)
West Indies lost by an innings.
Second test: NZ 460; WI 131 (Bravo 7) and Following on WI 317 (Bravo 4)
West Indies lost by an innings;
Maybe the batting would have been strengthened if he had not toured new Zealand.

Holder to Dickwella, out Caught by Cornwall!! The trap was set and Dickwella falls into it perfectly - pitched up and angling across the left-hander, Dickwella saw the width and just couldn't resist throwing the bat at it - the feet went nowhere, the edge was found and Cornwall snaps up a good two-handed catch, right in front of his stomach, at first slip. Dickwella gets a start once again, and as he usually does, throws his wicket away cheaply. No wonder Mickey Arthur looks miffed in the balcony.

Holder to Embuldeniya, no run, Embuldeniya has been given OUT LBW, looked pretty adjacent, but Embuldeniya will use his review. It's a fair delivery and there's no bat on it - is struck just above the knee-roll. Is it bouncing over? No bat and UltraEdge confirms it. Bouncing over and Embuldeniya has been saved by the review. Holder's height going against him there, Embuldeniya shuffled across to one taht slanted back in and missed, struck right in front, but the height was what saved the batsman

Can anybody give a list of the numbers on the backs of WI shirts? TV camera never stays on fielders long enough to identify them. I know I can get them when they bat but that requires watching all day long, and even then, if I go to get a snack, I might miss two wickets
I know Braithwaite is #11, and I can get the bowlers easily enough, but the others...
A nice list of all players and their numbers would be appreciated very much. Thanks.
I think it is great that Test cricket has finally figured out that numbers and names would be a good thing. I have been watching NZ 1st class competition (Plunket Shield) on NZC Youtube. They don't have any identification. No way to tell anything except who the batters and bowlers are.

Actually, I have to say the best part about this performance is the positive vibes from all the WI fans on the board.
It has been a long time coming and I love to see it. It reminds me of all those days in Jamaica when I would stop by a man with a transistor radio playing the commentary to join a group of people listening and all around would be cheering on the success of our team.
It is a beautiful thing to see and share.

I have some batting skills, tried to bat along Joshua and build a partnership. It's all about confidence, I tell my coach that I'm capable of making big scores. I just wanted to support Joshua and take the score forward. Think we're in a good position, it's important to bat well in the first hour tomorrow and then take the game forward

They both stay where they are. Where do you want Cornwall to bat? Above Alzahri? Only recently some were calling for Alzhari to bat higher. Tomorrow Roach makes runs then the call will be for him to bat higher.
Where should the 'keeper bat? #7 is just about right and internationally, that is where most teams place their 'keepers, however, you seem to have a better idea so where should be bat?
Also tomorrow when the 'keeper and Cornwall fail with the bat, what will you do?

56.1
Mayers to Oshada Fernando, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! YOU MUST BE KIDDIN! Mayers has done what the front-line bowlers couldn't do. Comes on for the first time today, simply bowls on a length with a scrambled seam just outside off. Maybe lightly straightened which is what made Fernando to hang his bat at it. A very faint edge and sitter for Da Silva. Gold. Fernando after battling so hard, has to depart nine short of century. A blip in concentration you'd think but kuds for the bowling change from Braithwaite. Could this trigger the spark for West Indies?

69.4
Roach to Pathum Nissanka, 2 runs, a direct hit and DDS wasn't even in the frame, he had given up only for Brathwaite to rush with the throw and miss it completely - a suicidal call for a single from Nissanka after he pushed one in front of cover, gets an extra bounce as the ball rolled towards long leg

This is very poor.
I don't get why captains and coaches don't implement different tactics when batting gets too easy for the opposition.
For example:
Set a field and let Gabriel and Joseph try a bouncing attack.
or
Let the spinners bowl into the pads and set a field for it.
Try something, anything with a proper plan ofcourse.

Alzarri Joseph to Dickwella, no run, shouts of "Howzaat" from the West Indies fielders but when your keeper doesn't even bother to appeal, it tells a story. Very full delivery down leg, Dickwella misses the flick and Da Silva after collecting it was getting ready to sprint to the other end

136.3
Blackwood to Pathum Nissanka, 2 runs, **DRUMROLL** Century on Test debut for Pathum Nissanka! He's the fourth batsman to achieve the feat, informs Daren Ganga on air. Drafted into the side on the back of prolific performances in domestic cricket and oh boy! He's justified his selection and delivered when his team needed the most. What a player, this youngster is. Sri Lanka have unearthed a gem of a talent. This was flighted just outside off, Nissanka pressed forward and steered it past slip off a slight outside edge.

The problem with Brooks is his consistency...he averages in the 20s in Test cricket. He'll get another chance, and when he does, he needs to make it count.

We have a review for lbw. Umpire Joel Wilson shook his head after a big appeal from the Sri Lankans. Karunaratne looked around and showed the 'T' sign. Doesn't need Ultra-Edge to decode this as Bonner's clearly missed it. This looks close but the ball-tracking predicts it to be hitting the top of leg-stump.

Vishwa Fernando to Bonner, no run
Has to be out! Full length on middle, Bonner is very late defending and plays around this, given not out by Joel Wilson. He was hit pretty plumb in front of middle. Sri Lanka call for the review. Replays show he was hit just above the knee roll but didn't make any stride forward. It's not going down leg. Only doubt is on height. Ball-tracking shows umpire's call clipping the top of leg stump. Well that's a home-team call if ever there was one. If this match is in Sri Lanka, that's probably given out on field. Sri Lanka retain their review.
Finally, Humpire Joel Wilson delivers.

Congratualtions !!!!!

Fernando to Bonner, FOUR, the weather gods can wait.. maiden Test hundred for Bonner. Just into his third Test but he's already turning out to be a tough cookie. Overpitched delivery from Fernando outside off, Bonner doesn't want to delay it further, throws his bat and smashes it through cover. Looks up, takes off his helmet and celebrates. What a moment indeed!

They was too slow early...they means the skipper was playing for a draw from the start of the innings...had he been able to score at a reasonable rate victory may have been possible....had he got out early we would lose

WI need a good Left arm pace bowler like V Fernando. Train the youngsters like McSween and McCoy
