two Bajan rejects who have done well regionally. Who is the better of the two? I used to think that Mayers was the better bowler and Reifer the better batsman. These days I am confused.

Mayers and Reifer
Both guys are evidence that players shouldn't be afraid to try out for other franchises, the draft system is a mockery in it's current selection process.
I haven't seen a lot of Reifer, I think Mayers has the stroke play to put the opposition on the back foot and his bowling was actually better than what I thought.

You really is confused.....how were they rejected by Bim?, with our regional setup structured along the franchise lines, the opportunity is there for players to play anywhere....these two players were given opportunities outside of Barbados and they did well, the desired goal of playing for the west indies achieved..please, plenty Barbadians play in other teams why are these two an issue?

Always thought Mayers was the better player in all formats. He though have been labeled a bottom of the order big hitter and left there. This past regional season he was injured and couldn't d much bowling and was played as a batsman only and his ability with the bat showed up.
Another player like him is Justin Greaves. They actually are way more consistent batsmen than players labeled as batsmen in the WI setup

Agreed, otherwise you have talented players sitting at home. Jason Bennett is one such really good wicket taker that never got a shot. He did get some light though to show his talent.

Yes I was thinking the same thing raymond reifer I remember was an elegant left handed batsman with promise but mayers has improved leaps and bounds over the past year.
Mayers is the most talented allround cricketer I have seen since Jason Holder. His bowling will take wickets in England and New Zealand, he pulls back the seam beautifully and his pace is ideal for late swing.

Agree fully with this. I have advocated this level of entrepreneurship from both players as well as franchises.

When ppl were clamouring for Mayers DaSilva and Reifer to replace failing players in ENG and NZ....Simmons persistently stuck with the failures and ignored these guys who were fighters and hard workers.
They were even calls for Bonner...ignored.
Those guys were running from the fast bowing and only Blackwood was standing up.
I told them DaSilva was gritty, Mayers would counterattack and Reifer was resilent....I was advocating for all THREE after they performed in the warm ups in England
Remember?
Against a bowling attack of Gabriel Roach Holder Joseph and Reifer noone of a WI select XI stood up against that bowling attack except for Mayers 74 not out.
That should have been enough to jolt the selectors in a team where batsmen was consistently failing.
I like Reifer. After all, he has been providing excellent service to the Guyana team for years. He also plays in first division cricket in Guyana.
K Mayers's cricket is a class above Reifer's, however, in many ways. Mayer's batting is a beauty to watch. His timing is often perfect, coupled with deceptive power that soon becomes evident as the ball rockets to the boundary.
Mayers gets into the 40's almost effortlessly, with strokes that LG Rowe would proud of. Recently he has learned to exercise greater care in the 40's and has been crossing 50 more often.
Mayers's 210* will not be an isolated event. Others teams too will concede centuries to him.
We should leave the past in the past. Mayers and WI cricket were fortunate that injury limited Mayers's bowling. The man's true value is now emerging and fans everywhere love it.
