In reply to Tryangle
La Soufriere
Just heard theres an orange alert and that PM Gonsalves has put the citizens of St Vincent & the Grenadines on noice to be prepared for the immediate evacuation as a result of the activity on La Soufruere volcano.
Evacuation is a possibility and theyre preparing to evacuate citizens to Barbados and, St Lucia
MAM has been talking about increasing the Bim pop by 80k. 10k Vincies would be a good start plus they all have family in Bim anyway
let's see how our "Caribbean unity" handles this crisis especially for the long haul..
video clip.

Started a thread in the RumSHop
It seems that it is going to erupt ,
the last eruption was in 1979 . There
are so far 2 Caribbean Countries that
are willing to take Evaccues .St. Lucia , and I believe Antigua .
A Royal Caribbean Tourist Liner has
offered to take Evaccues . Some of the
Boats in Bequia , One of the 32 Islands that Belong to SVG are also going to
take People from the Towns close to the
Volcano .
The Volacno is at the Nothern part of
St. Vincent . When it erupted in 1979
People were brought near to the area
where the Stadium is , that area is
Arnos Vale .
My understanding is that in 1979 , most of the Houses at Cane Garden , and also in Kingstown got a lot of
Ash from the Volcano .
In reply to POINT
You did warn us two weeks ago - hope there is no loss of life.
In reply to Chrissy
It seems that currently all indications
are that it is likely to Erupt . People living in the Nothern part of the island , Like Sandy Bay where there are
a lot of Caribs , the Original Natives
live , will have to be evaccuated .
People who live in Georgetown , the second Town in SVG will have to be evaccuated . Also people in Baroullie . Information can be gleaned from these SVG Online News Papers :
NEWS 784 SVG ; SVG API News ;I witness News SVG .

..well I am hearing that Barbados was notably missing from the list of countries assisting in the most recent statements by Prime Minister Gonsalves..
Another question...What happen to all the animals/lifestocks? 🐔🐤😭
Intereted Persons , can check out the
following events on SVG API NEWS , which is from the Government of SVG .
Online News Papers are : The Vincentian; I Witness News ; News 784 ;
Searchlight ; Breadfruit News SVG .
My understanding is that the New Magma
due to the eruptions has completely
covered the old Magma , forming a New
Cone .
What is also terrible is that inhaling the very fine ashes that come out of the Volcano , can be
discomforting to small kids .
My understanding is that La Soufriere
is still erupting . The Eruption in
1979 was not as severe as this current Eruption .
The Good News as I stated is that 3
Cruise Liners have stated that They will evacuate Persons to other Islands , including the Grenadines , which in proximity are Bequia ; Cannouan , Myreau ; and Union Island.
St. Lucia , Grenada ; Barbados ; and
Antigua have also promised to help ,
This outpouring of Generousity , in the briefing of P.M. Gonsalves brought him to tears .
I have no doubt that Vincentian Organizations , especially in New York ; Florida ; and Canada will be having Functions to help in this Disaster .
In the Eruption of 1979 , Members of
Associations in Brooklyn had Functions to raise money to assist the Government in that Disaster .
I am sure that is going to happen again .
In reply to tops
It's a challenge for people, vegetation and livestock to put it mildly..
In reply to hotarobin
That is true in the immediate vicinity , however, the Ashes the Eruption in 1979 , that went to Barbados , increased the crops there .
The Ashes in the current explosion in SVG have reached the AIA , aka the
Argyle International Airport , and various places which are not in the
vicinity of La Soufriere .
A friend of mine , told me that the
ashes irritate his 4 years old son's
breathing , so apparently Little Children needs to wear mask .
In reply to POINT
Heard RG saying that there is ash at the official residence and all over Kingstown
In reply to POINT
What's the situation in Bequia?
My parents lived there for a few years, and that's where we went for our honeymoon.
In reply to POINT
I just read an article which states that the cruise ships will take only vaccinatd residents on board. The unvaccinated have to fend for themselves. I hope i misinterpreted.....
In reply to POINT
"Volcanic ash is extremely rich in minerals and has antiseptic, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties.Inhalation of volcanic ash can be very detrimental to human health, due to the harmful aerosols and poisonous gases the ash is made up of.When volcanic ash mixes with sufficient water, when moving, it can look like a mass of wet concrete. The ash contains dozens of minerals including magnesium, calcium, sodium, sulfur, copper, iron and zinc; all important to plant growth.Ashfall can have serious detrimental effects on agricultural crops and livestock depending mainly on ash thickness.Defoliation of trees may also occur, especially if there is a coarse component of ash-sized particles.
Wear a mask and be careful of your lungs.
In reply to Chrissy
That is probably true , there are Ashes
probably over the whole Island , I expect that Ashes will also be in Bequia , which is the nearest Island
to mainland St. Vincent .
BTW , Unvaccinated Person cannot Board
any of the Boats , or go to Other Caribbean Islands unless they are vaccinated .
In reply to johndom90
The Government has insisted that unvaccinated Persons cannot go on
Boats . They also cannot go to the homes of Persons on other Regional Islands unless they have been vaccinated .
In reply to Chrissy
There's ash in Barbados. Inches of it in some places.
In reply to sgtdjones
Perhaps the Corona Virus is a blessing
in disguise , there are masks in mainland St. Vincent , Hopefully there
masks in the Grenadines .
In reply to POINT
Was it ever this bad, previous eruptions?
In reply to Curtis
In 1979 Barbados got Ashes , from the
Eruption in 1979 , so that is not unusual, so did St. Lucia .
The current Eruption is vastly worse
than the Eruption in 1979 . I have no doubt that Bequia , the nearest Grenadine Island to mainland St. Vincent got Ashes .
BTW , The main Grenadines Island that
belong to St. Vincent , are Bequia ;
Cannouan ; Mayreau ; and Union Islands . There are other small Islands that have no persons living on them , and then there are large Rocks .
" Pirates of the Caribbean " was filmed on One of the Islands called
The Tobago Cays , that has lovely beaches .
stay strong Vincies , this too shall past!
In reply to POINT
I visited Bequia nuff. Know a few folks well
In reply to mikesiva
Lots of ash, forcing folks to stay locked inside, and compounding the water supply shortage that's typical at this time of year.
In reply to Da-Vincy
Thanks for that.
My best wishes to the Whaleboner, and the family that ran that guest house.
Also to the family of the late Cosmo, who used to run the petrol station.
And the family of Mrs Mitchell at the Frangipani.
I hope all these friends we made 30 years ago are staying safe.
In reply to POINT
Its unfortunste that in this human crisis, that only a privileged % will be evacuated...
In reply to Curtis

In reply to mikesiva
The same family still runs the Whaleboner, and the Frangipani too. But Mrs Mitchell herself did pass.
The gas station has since changed hands. But still using the very same pumps!!
Folks overall on the island are faring reasonably ok. Just trying to keep ash out their lungs and limited water supply, and hoping that the eruptions subside. But some grave socio-economic impacts would be felt throughout the country for a long time.
In reply to johndom90
They are offering to provide the vaccine but some people are unwilling to take and see it as a violation of their human rights
In reply to Maispwi
In that regard a woman said she would rather return to the exclusive zone than take a vaccine
In reply to sudden
Gov't was trying to use the eruption crisis to force its vaccine agenda, in a country where skepticism about the vaccine and mistrust and bitter feuds over it are still raging. The Health minister was hollering at evacuees that they would have no choice but to submit to the injection on the way into any shelter. Then claims that the neighboring islands and ships would only accept vaccinated people, only to be contradicted by the foreign officials. Plenty drama in Vincy.
In reply to Da-Vincy
Indulge me here.
Why is there so much distrust and skepticism about the vaccine in St Vin?
there's distrust and skepticism about the vaccine .....everywhere....
not just St Vincent.
and they have every right to so be..
In reply to johndom90
Agreed but did you not note the qualifier so much.
Although there is some distrust and skepticism in Bim, people came out in large numbers to get vaccinated
Following the herd is not always the best option for the individual.
Having an informed opinion is the best way to make a choice.
Trying to force feed Vincys with the vax is morally wrong.
What about those with chronic conditions that exclude them from taking the vax?
Pregnant women...children.... I guess if this eruption turn krakatoan...they get left behind.
reply to sudden
Why is there so much distrust and skepticism about the vaccine in St Vin?
A couple reasons perhaps.
The govt (PM) was kinda dismissive about the corona thing early on. Said things like theres no need for masks, curfews or border closures. Went on radio and asked them to play Jah go lick dem wid diseases, singing and giggling along.
Then he made a big scene with a box of tests strips donated by Maduro, only for a camera to pick up that the box had an expiration date that had already passed.
Next was mandatory stays at select hotels for returning residents, at their own expense...even if they had negative tests or lived alone. People felt it was just a ploy to collect money.
And now after first dismissing the seriousness of the threat, an aggressive tpushing of the vaccine and linking it to some controversial things like school reopening, etc. Plenty mud slinging, with Politics and religion and pseudo-science fully in the mix too.
Think there were also doubts whether the country could source or afford 2nd doses, after people got tbe 1st shots.
Ok...enough indulgence.
In reply to Da-Vincy
Thanks
This whole vaccination scenario with St. Vincent is being used as a rallying cry against the notion of 'vaccine passports' in the US and elsewhere.
