DilemNa

Let's revisit this subject.

Had anyone heard of the word "dilemna" before it was used by Spuds?

This goes to show, never set yourself a higher bar than everyone else, you will be scrutinized more than anyone else.

Yes dilemna was in use was for a time. Look up the controversy between that and dilemma

Very informative, I had never heard of it and thought he had just misinterpreted the word.

This has to be Spuds here.

I’m nearly certain I was taught the wrong spelling in school, and when I got older and checked a dictionary, I was shocked to find that the word is spelled "dilemma." Further, the only correct spelling is “dilemma." I thought it was spelled “dilemna.” It’s not as if "dilemna" is a substandard variant or regional spelling. Dictionaries often note alternative spellings and sometimes even nonstandard spellings, but "dilemna" doesn't even show up that way

Isn't this how the word got the meaning? People were unsure of the correct spelling and it caused a dilemna?

But how could this be?

It seems like the "dilemNa" people are a small minority.

Actually like Spuds I was more used to using Delemna than Dilemma. Glad I wasn't posting then or I too could have been 'Ridiculed'

But how is this possible?

Could this have come from a mispronunciation of the word by someone in education?

Did you and Spuds go to the same school? lol lol

As a kid, I remember "dilemna" being used quite often but even back then a few people would argue that the correct spelling should be "dilemma". "Dilemna" disappeared after a while, for obvious reasons, IMO.
