The Croft incident has to be taken into context. WI having defeated Australia went to New Zealand facing a blatantly racist press along with the public in general. The umpiring from the first test was deplorable at best. If’s memory serves me correctly in one test over two innings there were 14 LBW decisions against WI an three against New Zealand.
Rugby was the big game in New Zealand and they would regularly compete with South Africa whose were banned from most international sport at the time. It was clear the kiwis needed to show a superiority of their kind then realized they’could only accomplish by cheating. The players came very close to abandoning this tour.

I’m no Colin Croft fan.
But there’s obviously something to the man.
After being ostracized like the rest of his rebel teammates, he has gone on to have a career, first in Aviation and then as a cricket pundit on TV
That’s pretty remarkable given the odds and hurdles he would have faced as a result of his actions by going to South Africa at that time.
Again.....not a fan....but have to respect his ability to overcome and prosper.....at least on the face of it.

Colin was in Trinidad learning Aviation and playing for Paragon. He returned to lead the SPEC at UWI. What a great career as an honorary white and the only man to lick down an umpire . . . I invite all young people to imitate his career path. I mean Gilchrist had a temper but to lay your hands on a man like a wayward preacher . . . well, moral and spiritual values

Croft charging into the umpire and Holding kicking down the stumps were two things of beauty. I am actually looking to have those two pictures blown up and framed and be the center piece of my living room.
Those actions led to West Indies going 15 years undefeated.
