A Burnham mind?
In his next over, Croft slammed a series of bouncers at Hadlee, and when Goodall no-balled him, Croft deliberately knocked the bails off as he walked back past the stumps. As he ran in to bowl his next ball (he did so from almost directly behind the umpire) he deliberately shoulder-charged him.

But the fourth day contained the most unpleasant incident of all. Colin Croft, who was repeatedly jeered by the crowd for dawdling back to his mark, appealed - belatedly - for a catch behind when Hadlee swished at a bouncer and again Goodall turned it down. Croft reacted with a four-letter salvo at Goodall, and both then umpires spoke to West Indies' captain, Lloyd. It had little effect.

Colin was simply expressing his displeasure with blatantly inaccurate calls. You would too.
It's the fast bowler mentality.
Viv also had that.

Colin suffered from a lack of mentorship. Someone needed to harness and pivot Colin's energy and intellect into another direction.

Colin suffered from a lack of mentorship.
I have known him since 1970 when he played for Central High School vs QC and his response to hitting Juggie Walcott in the box and forcing him to retire hurt was to laugh..
In 1972 Kanhai and Gibbs arranged for him to go to Warwickshire and then Clive Lloyd got him into Lancashire.3 Great Players but none of them gave him any mentorship???

The Croft incident has to be taken into context. WI having defeated Australia went to New Zealand facing a blatantly racist press along with the public in general. The umpiring from the first test was deplorable at best. Ifs memory serves me correctly in one test over two innings there were 14 LBW decisions against WI an three against New Zealand.
Rugby was the big game in New Zealand and they would regularly compete with South Africa whose were banned from most international sport at the time. It was clear the kiwis needed to show a superiority of their kind then realized theycould only accomplish by cheating. The players came very close to abandoning this tour.

Im no Colin Croft fan.
But theres obviously something to the man.
After being ostracized like the rest of his rebel teammates, he has gone on to have a career, first in Aviation and then as a cricket pundit on TV
Thats pretty remarkable given the odds and hurdles he would have faced as a result of his actions by going to South Africa at that time.
Again.....not a fan....but have to respect his ability to overcome and prosper.....at least on the face of it.

Colin was in Trinidad learning Aviation and playing for Paragon. He returned to lead the SPEC at UWI. What a great career as an honorary white and the only man to lick down an umpire . . . I invite all young people to imitate his career path. I mean Gilchrist had a temper but to lay your hands on a man like a wayward preacher . . . well, moral and spiritual values

Croft charging into the umpire and Holding kicking down the stumps were two things of beauty. I am actually looking to have those two pictures blown up and framed and be the center piece of my living room.
Those actions led to West Indies going 15 years undefeated.

War is a good thing unless it happens to you. Fat lazy West Indians have never fought for anything. Slavery? Only the Haitians and Maroons fought . . . Independence? They used the opportunity to abuse their brother . . . Oil in Guyana . . . they will fight verbally over that . . . They have discovered nothing, have fought over nothing but a fart . . . with such little responsibility how easy it is barge into an umpire-you an honorary white and all

Suggest you catch up on your history. Slaves were not severely whipped or tortured to death for singing songs and complying with the wishes of their masters. Despite the known consequences a number ran away seeking relief from an unacceptable life. There were bounty hunters who had hired to retrieve runaways, they did their jobs with vigour for inflicting pain.
You are a TiT, should be aware due to a slave uprising and Tobago and the time its took for soldiers to arrive from England to suppress, Tobago then became twinned with T & T.

My kind of people
In 1663, another Maroon faction, led by Juan de Serras, ambushed and killed Lubolo, initiating eight decades of escalating tension with the British, who could not dislodge the Maroons from their mountain fortresses. By 1720, the Maroons took the offensive, mounting raids against British plantations along the base of the mountains. From 1729 to 1739, a state of open warfare existed between the British and the Maroons. The first British governor, Robert Hunter, was frustrated by Jamaica's mountainous terrain, which the Maroon leaders used to their advantage. The Windward Maroons were lead by Captain Quao, while the Leeward Maroons followed Cudjoe, a skilled and ruthless guerilla warrior. Hunter died in 1734, and within five years the British decided that the conflict would have to be resolved through negotiation.
