With huge doubt still surrounding the upcoming home series between hosts West Indies and the visiting South African side slated for June 2021, the topic that has continued to resonate throughout cricketing circles is the make-up of the next Test team if and when cricket gets underway.
With a number of the new players, the likes of Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers and Joshua Da Silva looking the part at the top level, regional cricket commentator and Trinidadian journalist, Fazeer Mohammed, believes the selectors should look elsewhere, where the selection of Jamaican opener John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood are concerned.
Campbell’s mediocre record speaks for itself. It cannot be argued that he has not been given enough opportunity to prove himself, and he continues to be found wanting,” said Mohammed.
“Most notable was the repetitive manner of his dismissals in the Tests against Sri Lanka, which suggests that opponents have worked him out and he was not able to adjust his style or technique to effectively counteract them,” added Mohammed.

Moron Fazeer....dropping Blackwood....just after few failures....at the same time making Braithwaite place as opener permanent...just after two or three innings of good score...., that too on placid pitches....

I do not agree that Blackwood should be dropped, but what exactly did you expect Faz to say about Brathwaite who just scored a century on the same placid pitches on which Campbell failed, and who is averaging 48 with the bat this year?
I totally agree with Mohammed that both should be dropped. Only in the West Indies we persist with failure for so long. And yes I agree a guy should not be dropped given a short run of failure. But still it depends.
For Campbell this is a no brainner. Only thing favouring him is that no one waiting has been convincing.
With Blavkwood however the opposite is true.

Typically, Mohammed looking for a position on the team for Bravo, if he was truly concerned about Bravo, he should have advised him to tour Bangladesh. Anyway who cares about any suggestion from Mohammed, as the Head Coach has already spoken that it is unrealistic to expect every player to perform every match of every series. The team is coming to together, with different players shouldering the batting or bowling during every match.

A step forward and we want to go back two steps with this chopping and change to bring back noted failures. SMH

Why is he a moron....all teams in the same position would have dropped Campbell by now...feel sorry for the lad but he has not performed as an opening batsman.Blackwood i wouldnt drop but he needs to step up now he is vice cappo.

I would not object to Campbell being dropped because a decent case can be made for it, but dropping Blackwood would take us back to the bad old days of chopping and changing.
