I like that list. How about for honourable mentions
Brigitte Foster Hylton
Omar McLeod
In reply to mikesiva
You are on the ball, however, McLeod is not a honorable mention. He belongs.
In reply to Ewart
I'm surprised Marlene Ottey is not in your top 10.
In reply to JoeGrine
I know he is good but has McLeod earned a top 10 place?
In reply to black
1. Olympic Champion
2. World Champion
3. World Indoor champion - actually held all 3 titles simultaneously
4. Only man in history to run sub 10.00 and sub 13.00

I would expect better from you than a question like this. Just refresh your memory with a review of the 2015 Beijing women's 4x400 meter relay and check out her 47.7 final leg that won us gold.
Every time I watch that race I am moved with emotion. That determination, that power of will and spirit! That is the essence of greatness.
A woman who had just come back from a bout with cancer! A woman of much more than mere physical athletic prowess.
And you ask "on what basis?"
//
In reply to DirtyDan
Yes! Thanks! Added.
//
In reply to JoeGrine
And, yes. I would add McLeod.
//
Oono forgeting the man who won 100M silver and bronze in successive Olympics and was also part of 4x100 WR team while still in college ....?
black won't know without Google but Ewart and Mr.Grine shame on onno to raass...
In reply to nitro
Yohan Blake ......?
Yohan Blake ........??
Is troll yuh trolling or is fool yuh raass fool .....?
In reply to JohnBull

Gimme a little credit, I know a lot of the old timers.
In reply to JohnBull
Yohan won Gold at Worlds and played second fiddle to the GOAT.
In reply to JohnBull
Only Omar Mcleod i could put in over Yohan. I chose not to.
In reply to nitro
Won gold because Usain was DQ'd.
Lennox Miller was the standard bearer for JA in the period btwn McKinley/Wint and DQ. The man set a WR while at UCLA that still stands today. He busted up the expected US quinella in 68 then finished 3 behind Juicy Borzhov in 72.
For me he gets a higher rating that Yohan Blake.
No Juliet Cuthbert and Grace Jackson on the women's side for honorable mentions?
Have they been traded to problemjay's team, that is so lacking, or something?
In reply to JoeGrine
the title didnt say track athletes... so i am guessing Mike the bodysnatcher McCallum comes in at #16
In reply to rudebway
That is correct but you should have known T&F would dominate.

In reply to black
1. Bolt
2. Wint
3. VCB
4. Shelly
5. Elaine
6. Mckinley
7. DQ
8. Ottey
9. Mike McCallum
10.Melaine
Bolt is #1

You are ranking on emotions my esteemed poster. If you talk women's 400m in Jamaica the names to that to mind are:
1) Lorraine Graham-Fenton
2) left vacant as she LGF is so far ahead
3) Sherika Jackson
4) Novlene Williams-Mills/Marilyn Neufville
One of the best relay 4x400 legs by a woman was done by said Lorraine (48 plus) in the Paris World Champs.
Novelene has never split sub 49 much less 47point.
In reply to JahJah
What does Cuthbert and Jackson have over Lorraine Graham-Fenton. She is the most disrespected female ever to compete for Jamaica. Allow me to place her record here:
1997 - 4x400 bronze. Would have been gold if the coaches did the right thing
1999 - 400m bronze
2000 - Olympic 400m silver and 4x400 silver
2001 - 400m silver and 4x400 gold
2003 - 400m silver and 4x400 silver (48.6 leg unofficially - time if for yourself on youtube - the fastest ever by a Jamaican)
2005 - 4x400 bronze
THIS LADY NEVER FAILED TO BRING HOME TO JAMAICA A MEDAL IN HER YEARS AT THE GLOBAL LEVEL.
THIS LADY IS THE 400m NATIONAL RECORDHOLDER 18 years and counting
SHOW HER SOME RESPECT
In reply to rudebway
2. McKinley
3. VCB
4. Shelly
5. DQ
6. Elaine
7.Ottey
8. Mike McCallum
9. Melaine
10.McLeod
A list not including Arthur Wint calls for head scratching!
In reply to black
You meant Track and Field and not all athletes?
In reply to JoeGrine
A list not including Arthur Wint calls for head scratching!
edited.. big miss. hard making a list. DQ has a school named after him..and is mentioned in the song Duppy or a Gunman...but Elaine has more Olympic gold medals. Funny thing is growing up Ottey was the one carrying our flag but always came up short at the olympics. 1996 was a heart breaker.
i loved me some Melaine till she hit her head.
In reply to camos
Lol. I figured track and field was so dominant that guys would not try to sneak in a boxer or cricketer. So yes, I knew the debate would be centered around track and field but I didn't want to limit it to just that.

In reply to black
Perhaps you should have said "Sportspersons"
In reply to black
If you meant sports peronalities, a number of boxers, Alia Atkinson and probably Tappa Whitmore would be in the top 10.
In reply to nitro
i had Mike McCallum in mine.. boxing is a solo sport.Jamaican born and bred..world champ...so he made it on my list... Lloyd Honegan i viewed as british, Berbick as Canadian.. Alia cant make a top ten....neither can Tappa. not over Holding or Walsh...or Gayle..
btw..ddoes anyone know whatever became of Richard "Shrimpy" Clark?
In reply to rudebway
Tapper scored two goals on the biggest stage in a global sport and carried tiny Jamaica to victory at the World Cup.
In reply to nitro
Job well done except Rhoden should replace Blake
In reply to black
Dr. Lennox Miller. I Think One Orenthal James Simpson ran a leg of that world record relay which was not ratified because not all athletes were from the same country.
In reply to rudebway
Melaine could've become Olympic, World Games and WR holder with world and or game record in each
In reply to Brerzerk
Miller was the first man to run in 3 Olympics 100 finals ,but that is trivial!
In reply to Brerzerk
OJ ran the 3rd leg and handed off to Lennox who brought it home in 38.6 ....on a dirt track btw. May not have been ratified but it is fast as raass and has never been broken.
Read it in the news
In reply to JohnBull
No, no totally agree, that lil bit of detail was for info purposes only
In reply to camos
Miller actually only participated in two Olympic Games, medaling in both.
Raymond Stewart was the first man to make 3 consecutive Olympic Games finals
