HEADLINE: Tallawahs selections puzzle Santokie

CaribbeanCricket.com 2021-06-07 12:26:05

He is known to be one of the best Twenty20 bowlers in the world, having taken his talents from the senior West Indies team, to as far as the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Krishmar Santokie, who to this day possesses some of the best bowling numbers in the Caribbean Premier League, is livid and believes that his homeland franchise, the Jamaica Tallawahs, have shifted their focus from pure cricket to friendship, intertwined with favoritism and business.

They will also be without fast bowler Oshane Thomas, who has joined the Barbados Tridents, while Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who took 12 wickets last season, has been selected by the defending champions, the Trinbago Knight Riders.

“I don’t think it is really about cricket anymore, it is more like a business. People pick some players and they have benefits behind it too,” said Santokie.

“We have players like Andre McCarthy that has done well for the franchise, yet he is not picked, and sometimes when the home-grown talent don’t perform in a couple of games, they crucify them, but when the overseas players have numerous bad games, they are still selected and played,” added Santokie. With that said, the Tallawahs will be banking on their old soldiers Andre Russell along with Rovman Powell and Chadwick Walton to do the bulk of the scoring this season.

I only recognized about 3 Jcans on the team.

It's franchise cricket.

Not national team.

The owners of the team will do as they wish.

Someone maybe should explain to Santokie how this works.

Is Abijai Dr. Mansingh's son, the one who was playing grade cricket in Oz?
If Stephen Taylor could rise to the occasion in top class franchise cricket then hopefully so can he... if that is the guy.
The squad is not as weak as ppl. think but there are certainly not enough local players especially no youth to develop
Thing is if they start winning the public will not care who plays. Sigh

Do the players and fans know the ownership and management, the 'chief selector' (or in NFL terms, the general manager) of these teams? Certainly they should be the ones drawing the ire if anyone's not satisfied with the draft selections

the Jamaica Tallawahs, have shifted their focus from pure cricket to friendship,

hmm... I seem to recall, once upon a time, a long-long time ago, a Jamaican was accused of 'friendism' when he had some of his countrymen on the WI team. big grin big grin 😁

I think Santokie’s comments are due more to Jamaica cricket structure than the CPL.BTW he is here in the US, spotted by a Guyanese and explained this same sentiment. Is he wrong to be bitter? He was overlooked by Jamaica throughout his career, you can’t tell me with that swing he could not have played 50 overs for Jamaica.

cool

If Ian Bradshaw made it there definitely should have had room for Santokie in Jam 50 overs squad. Maybe with a franchise model the next santokie will be picked by a next team

Kirk Mckenzie is on the team but, Santokie is correct in pointing out that the Tallawahs' selection process is troubling. He has proven himsellf yet the JA selectors conveniently bypass him in T20 and 50 over games. I see overseas players getting pelted yet they are still picked ahead of Santokie?
I will be surprised is Mckenzie or Mansingh gets a game.

Maybe because he is known to throw tantrums.

Russell reserves his body for the CPL.

The jamaica scorpion didn't pick them, but if they're so good how come the other franchises in the Cpl didn't pick them, it also has Ipl, Psl, Bsl Bbl etc..It's Franchise cricket not the national team, they go for players that they think will win games.

I am disappointed our best batsman Daren Bravo, didn't make it but he has no one to blame but himself because he had the same opportunity that Hope, Powell and Chase had, but he failed. In the final 13 I would leave out Cornwall since Chase is back and Cornwall has not been taking wickets in the Caribbean. Then Joseph like Cornwall has not been taking wickets since the day his mom passed. So sorry the 2 Antiguans should be rested because we need to take wickets to win

If Mckenzie or Mansingh are part of the Emerging Players Group then based on the Tournament Rules one or both must play in a combined minimum 5 games

Edited

Mckenzie and Joshua James are the Tallawahs' Emerging Players

If Powell is captain they will be fighting for the bottom spots.
