BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Resurgent stroke-maker Shai Hope believes his recall to the West Indies side for the series against South Africa has provided him the opportunity to write a new chapter in a turbulent Test career.
The 27-year-old Barbadian, dropped following the tour of England last July owing to a protracted run of wretched form, was yesterday included in a 13-man squad for the first Test at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia starting Thursday.
And, he said he was keen on making up for lost time after spending the last year out of the Test set-up working on different aspects of his game.
“Any cricketer would want to be part of any set-up in West Indies cricket, so it's been challenging [being out of the side], but I'm just happy to be here,” Hope told a media conference hosted via Zoom.
“[I] just [want] to be more clear in my thought processes and overall success.
“[I am] basically trying to [turn a new page], trying to start a fresh book, so hopefully I can hit the ground running if I get the opportunity to go out there.”

Well now he is more matured and experienced than when he started, so lets hope that he will make use of this opportunity. West Indies needs at least two consistently performing batsmen, and both Bonner and Hope could be those two players to shoulder our batting, if they could humble themselves and keep their heads down. (literally and figuratively)

Listening to Roger Harper yesterday he said, Shai has done well opening in ODI and the red ball matches he has played so far.
The question was asked about the opening test position.
I cannot see him batting no lower than #2.

Could you gush any more about a man with a really shitty test average - you must be an arse licking Bajan! What a lot of you don't know is that Hope has been struggling mentally for the past year, breakup with his girlfriend and believing Covid is not real are part of the demons he is battling (even after catching Covid and passing it onto his 80 something year old grandmother and to his parents!). Just goes to show how looks can be ever so deceiving but hey, hopefully he can keep up the current form, dash his demons away and do something beyond his two test centuries, his known fear of pace, his well documented problems with good length bowling etc. this time around.
