The loss, which came in three days, was the West Indies sixth innings defeat in 253 home matches, and captain Kraigg Brathwaite said it was one of those days the team will want to forget in a hurry.
You have good days and you have bad days. Everything will not always be perfect. For me, we didnt have a good first innings, and what we have to do is learn from the good days and bad days, said Brathwaite.
Brathwaite, while acknowledging the potency of the South African bowling unit, said his team failed to execute the plans outlined for the match.
We had a plan, but things didnt go to plan, and for me, its just to refresh because the first Test is history. The good thing is that we saw how they bowled so we have gotten some experience against them, and the next game we have to be fully locked into that plan, added Brathwaite.

It's interesting to see that Wondies bowled out RSA for 322,
Yet the manager talking about bowlers.
Yes a better bowling combo could have bowled out RSA for under 200.
But the main issue is batting.
That has not changes for a few years now.
Fix the dam batting line-up.
A few batter got lucky in Bangladesh,
Suddenly they are a main fixture in the team.
Bonner, with all his shortcomings, is a stubborn batsman.
Mayers don't seem to understand the difference between white ball and red ball.
Note for Mayers, red ball calls for patient batting.
Dasilva is a newbie to first class cricket.
Bravo needs some 4-day training.
Jason Holder bats too low.
Braffit can't bat period.
Hope loss confidence.
Chase loss confidence.
Powell loss confidence.
Hetmyer loss confidence.
Blackwood is a vooper. Can't bat.
Pooran and Lewis not even in conversation until they play 4-days games.
People here think that vooping in white ball,
will bring success in red ball.
Typical Wondies myopic thinking.
Braffit loss what little technique he had when he started playing white ball.
Bravo red ball went to ruin when he started concentrating on white ball.
Even in white ball Bravo is a joker. too defensive...poke poke hit.
resulting in more 6's than 4's and not rotating strike.
yet idiots here calling for him in white ball games.
Without our 4day competition, how can players develop test batsman-ship.
How can Wondies be successful in today's ODI with....
Bravo upsetting Hope's riddim, by starving him of strike.
How can we expect to make competitive ODI scores batting first on good wicket.
Competitive score is well above 320 on batting wicket.
How can players learn to bat without a proper system.
How can they play international pacers while playing local cricket on dead pitches.
Look at the changes in Hindia team, when they sped up their wickets.
Dowrich one of our best batsmen, (though poor keeper)
had a personal issue (which I will not mention here)
But where is the love and support from the Board.
Peeps here forget that cricketers are people will private lives.
White ball cricketers get selected for test, and vice-versa here.
No matter how much you changed this team, they will fail.
The selectors just as bad as the fans here.
Simmons, get a clue.
Harper get loss. You worse than Brung.
At least Brung looked out for Bajans.
Wha Harper doing fa Guyanese?
enuff said about winning toss and batting.
