HEADLINE: Darren Bravo and Shannon Gabriel recalled for 2nd Betway Test Match against South Africa

CaribbeanCricket.com 2021-06-17 14:55:18

GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia – The Cricket West Indies Selection Panel today named the 13-member West Indies Men’s squad for the second and final Betway Test match against South Africa, starting on Friday, June 18. The panel recalled fast bowler Shannon Gabriel and left-handed batsman Darren Bravo.

Roger Harper, Lead Selector said: “Shannon Gabriel has been declared fully fit and as someone who was the spearhead of the attack before, he has returned to the 13-man squad. With Bravo, we have someone who is an experienced batsman and gives us a quality batting option.”

On the upcoming match, Harper added: “The team now has to play to the standard we know we’re capable of. We didn’t bat anywhere near to our potential in the first Betway Test and we have to improve with the bat in this upcoming match.”

I like your team too ...

because Shai Hope may have to WK

until his Test batting consistency gets

up ... where it belongs.

Kyle Myers for Bravo or Hope, Dasilva for Cornwall. We don't need two spinners. Bringing in Gabriel is also kind of risky, but one has to pick from the 13.

Mayers did not look good in either

inning of the first test.

DaSilva got a duck in the first inning

And was struck a painful blow while

batting - in the second.

Yadi 2021-06-17 17:39:30

In reply to Wally-1

However, Mayers may be more useful

with the bat than Rahkeem Cornwall.

Cornwall appeared completely out of his

comfort zone against top quality bowling.

I spoke to Kyle Mayers about the

getting out shot ... that he plays.

I specifically told him the adjustment

he needed to make.

Jermaine Blackwood is also hard of hearing

Even though he tells us what Virat Kohli

said to him ... he has stubbornly reverted

to SILLY Upper-Cuts;

Blackwood has absolutely NO REGARD for

Field Placement.

He's in the 13 means he is healthy, no batsman could have survived the ball he got in the 2nd inning.

All I will say is, if selectors don't find a way to play our by far best batsman, Daren Bravo, it's over and I taking a vacation. I know Bravo is out of form and he too is not very comfortable against short pitch bowling. But he is the best we have and he can fight his way to firm and score big! It doesn't matter who they have to drop to play Bravo even the captain himself. The likes of Myers is definitely not suited for this type of bowling and bouch wicket and no way he can slug his way to dominance!!!

Yadi 2021-06-17 17:49:26

In reply to Halliwell

Blackwood has been playing Cricket way

too long to be so utterly unsophisticated

concerning the nuances of shot placement

- by adjusting wrist position etc.

Yadi 2021-06-17 17:51:55

In reply to Sylobaby

Jermaine Blackwood only hits the Cricket

Ball as HARD as he can ....

A fielder standing directly in the path

of his shots mean absolutely nothing to

Jermaine.

Wally-1 2021-06-17 17:53:56

In reply to Sylobaby

Daren Bravo

I dont really care if he plays or not, if he does i wish him well.

Yadi 2021-06-17 17:54:06

In reply to Wally-1

Jermaine Blackwood must feel that he has

power - like Vivian Richards - to break

Firlders' hands.

Yadi 2021-06-17 17:57:24

In reply to Wally-1

Because all Blackwood has been doing -

for a while ...

Is picking out mid-off or covers ... &

Chinxing the ball STRAIGHT into fielders

hands.

Wally-1 2021-06-17 17:58:39

In reply to Halliwell

At NO POINT in my life ... have I

ever witnessed any other Batsman - at

any LEVEL ...

So stubbornly CLING to a FAULT.

And just keep getting out in the

same manner- match after match.

Yadi 2021-06-17 18:04:16

In reply to Wally-1

Even when there is only one fielder

in front of the bat on the offside.

Jermaine Blackwood has the TALENT picking

him out.

Yadi 2021-06-17 18:07:49

What about checking the stroke - on

contact - to keep the ball on the ground?

What about using ur wrists to slightly

open the bat face on contact - to

direct the ball into gaps in the field?

Yadi 2021-06-17 18:09:16

Such Dudes ... are NOT CRICKETERS !!!

I think with that admition from Harper, both Bravo and Angel will play. Don't know who for.

What about checking the stroke...

He should be doing that a long time ago. I suspect it is his upbringing i9n a time of lickit cricket that is the cause.

But he has played a few good innings outside of that mentality so he should be able to play more.

cricket_jumbie 2021-06-17 19:20:04

Let's bat deep.

Move Hope to the middle order (4/5) and include Mayers as well.

Roach, Gabriel, Holder and Seales and to form the main attack with Chase and Mayers spelling them.

De Silva and Cornwall sit this one out.

hubert 2021-06-17 19:26:50

I can't see the selectors recalling Bravo and not playing him.
And Mayers, despite his ungainly performance or lack of with the bat should not be dropped.
Therefore,I would put the Vice Captain Blackwood and Cornwwall to ride a horse called
The Bench with the former carrying the drinks and towels.

Cornwall sits for Gabriel it is a seamers pitch, Shai opens Darren comes in at 3

Thought he would miss the next test as a result of injury....if not, Bonner plays for Hope

Sylobaby 2021-06-17 23:44:16

In my opinion the best 11 for this crucial test is:
1 Brathwaite
2. Powell
3. Bravo
4. Hope- Wicket keeper
5. Chase
6 Myers
7. Blackwood
8. Holder
9. Roach
10. Seales
11. Gabriel.

So our first 4 batsmen have scored 3 or more test centuries against high quality bowling. I would play Myers as cover in case Gabriel can only give us 5 overs. No need for Cornwall with Chase, Brathwaite and Powell. So we are playing 8 batsmen with test centuries, 4 quicks, 1 medium, I spinner, and two part timers
We have the batting depth, bowling depth and a very competent if not better wicket keeper

DIEHARD 2021-06-18 13:31:17

In reply to tc1

Blackie been failing for a while, Meyers has scored a 40 more recently than Blackwood, if they felt brave enough to open with DaSilva, then both Blackwood and Meyers could play, my ideal XI

Brathwaite
DaSilva
Bravo
Chase
Hope
Blackwood
Meyers
Holder
Roach
Gabriel
Seales

Shai is not a Test opener, we need to stop trying that, let the man hide in the middle order, where his talent may actually result in runs
