...we are not where we should be in batting and not even close...pace or spin.
Those of us looking for success from the current crop of batsman must come down to earth with reality.
Further, our brains trust refuse to deal with the foundational requirements of cricket in the region.
Let us not delude ourselves into believing that this team has even a moderate chance of winning the T20 World Cup.
Our problems are too many and our ability to get them right is vitually non-existent.

I disagree. We can win. How did we win the last 2?
In reply to Courtesy
Nobody even suggested wed come close to winning either of the T20 World Cups
If it wasnt for D Smith, Marlon, Marlon, Badree, Braff they would be as right as you
In reply to Courtesy
there is some suggestion that we were experimenting to find the right combination for the WC.
my question is, why didnt we do that during the SL series?
In reply to sudden
I thought we definitely did that
In reply to Courtesy
The key to resolving any problem is to involve the right people.

I have a question for you - which WI cricketer has improved over the last 5 - 10 years
i was thinking Roach but he has gotten to a point and he is there...he is not a killer...he can win you a game here and there...
Gabriel improved a little then didn't go further...
Darren Bravo - no
Hope - no
Chase - not really
Hety - not really
Alzarri - not really
i can say Roach was always where he is or just a wee bit better and Gabriel started poorly and so his improvements just took him to just ok
So technically no one
So
In reply to doosra
what up, partner?
tell me, what is the difference between no and not really in your post above?
In reply to doosra
I agree. The logical step forward is to find out why are we churning out technically deficient cricketers?

my question is, why didnt we do that during the SL series?
In the words of Stevie Wonder: "nothing from nothing leaves nothing."
In reply to sudden
If I may have a go?
No = Kelly Ann Conway
Not really = One a dem skanky Kardashians
In reply to SnoopDog
in other words, no difference
In reply to sudden
Right you are!

In reply to SnoopDog
Doosie is a smart lad then
In reply to sudden
That is a known known, as oppose to an unknown known or unknown unknown.

or a known unknown

Aren't you overlooking Blackwood and Bonner?
Blackwood was out in the wilderness, but returned as WI's first ever substitute batsman and has since gone on to take up the coveted VC position.
Bonner, after being on the periphery for an eternity, finally got himself into the fold.
For me, those two qualify as having improved.

Does Mayers count
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Actually, Mayers has gone in the opposite direction. He started with a bang and then fizzled.
We're all hoping, for our sake and more so his, that he rebounds.
In reply to Drapsey
When did he fizzle?
In reply to sudden
Since he debuted with a double.
That was some 12 at bats ago.
In reply to Drapsey
and Blackwood continues to shine?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Read.
Read my first post.
I have every confidence that you know the difference(s) between climax and anti-climax, progression and regression.
In reply to Drapsey
Ok suh
T20 cricket is a roller coaster ride type cricket with far less strategy than ODI and of course test cricket. If your best voopers can voop better than opposing team best voopers you stand a chance of being better the vooping team to win on that day. We can go far in the T20 world cup
We saw one West Indian vooper hit a first ball for six and missed the other five.
This is as good in terms of productivity as playing no risk sensible cricket taking singles.
There are other significant benefits of rotating the strike...but no need to explain this to non-discerning posters...waste of time.
That vooper in question looked like an ass in the end.
In reply to Courtesy
There was zero risk in that first shot
It should have been 12!
Same productivity
In reply to Halliwell
I repeat:
In reply to Courtesy
Nice
I know a current (available) WI player, Hope, who is very good at strike rotation. So good in fact that he even called out Gayle sometime ago about his inability to do likewise.
It's a pity that Hope is not a constant in our teams across all formats.
In my opinion , many here are akin to
Dogs barking up a Tree .
CRICKET IN THE REGION AINT GOING TO
IMPROVE UNTIL OR UNLESS THERE IS A
TOTAL RESTRUCTURING OF THE WICBC/CWI.
Change Must start from the Top Down ,
not from the Bottom up . The WICBC/CWI
for many years now with regard to our Players those in governance of West Indies Cricket have adhered to the same attitude of those who formed the WICBC , and were of a different pigmentation than Our Players .
UNTIL THAT ASSININE ATTITUDE IS
STOPPED CRICKET IN THE REGION WILL
BE AKIN TO SPINNING A TOP IN MUD !!!!
This behaviour is upholded by many of
the Frauds in the Region who masquerade as Sports Journalists .
MICHAEL HOLDING WAS NOT TRAINED TO BE
A SPORTS JOURNALIST ; BUT HE MAKES
A HELL OF A LOT MORE SENSE IN HIS
WRITINGS THAN THE FRAUDS WHO
MASQUERADE AS SPORTS JOURNALISTS .
Unless or until those in the Region
become critical of The Worst International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth WE will be akin to
Running Very Fast , but Finding
Ourselves in the Same Freaking Place!!!!!
THE Salient Question is This :
WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THOSE REPORTS
THAT THE WICBC/CWI COMMISSIONED ?????
If there were credible Sports Journalist in the Region , THEY would
have asked that Salient Question .
The fact that THEY have not done that
informs me that They are not only Frauds . They are Stooges of the WICBC/CWI .
In reply to Drapsey
Hope is not good at rotating the strike in ODIs. But he is great at playing beautiful drives directly to fielders and accumulating dot balls.
In reply to Drapsey
Maybe because cricket is played on the field and not in your mouth.
In reply to Walco
Walco, we were taught from the time we start playing to place the ball in the gap.
it was the basic for batting.
In reply to Courtesy
Correct and to the point. However I do think there has been an improvement in the shorter formats...ODI and T20.The test record is dreadful...and the SA tests were a reality check.Dont think changing captains was a good idea either for Brathwaite in particular.I worry about the impact the burden of cappo will affect his batting.
