ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Head coach Phil Simmons has reiterated the importance of West Indies’ batsmen becoming more tactically aware during the middle overs, following the 3-2 series defeat to South Africa last weekend.

A side packed with power-hitters failed to chase down 169 in Saturday’s final Twenty20 International, and crashed to a 25-run defeat in the decisive encounter at the Grenada National Stadium.

“We’ve got to think a little bit more. We’ve got to be smarter in our cricket – smarter especially in that seven to 14-over [period],” Simmons explained.

So who is going to help the batsmen develop some smarts? Does the coaches talk about strategy during the different periods of a game with the players?

After test series defeat..... Simmons blamed the batters.....After T-20 series loss...He blames the batters.....set of batsmen in test and T-20 are totally different...T-20 batsmen are extreme professionals sought after throughout T-20 leagues... .one thing common between both teams...the incompetent team management... Simmons and his management team should accept their failures be it tactical or technical ........

this has been a problem for decades this is something i can;t blame simmons for this is totally on the player nobody can't teach you this and it is especially hard since we have very experienced players in this team,who by now should have this knowlege of what to do in match situations

My sentiments exactly! It’s the coaches job to keep drilling the players and if they fail to execute the team plans they should be held accountable! The buck stops at the coach who is ultimately responsible!
