Powell got a 50in his last innings so he’s in. If he scores runs in the second innings, he’ll retain his place. If he doesn’t, then hope would replace him.

And unfair to bring this up now. Every batsman is most vulnerable early on in their innings

BTW, do I think Powell is a better player or opener than Lewis? I do not. I believe Lewis is the best opener in the region

But the selectors and CWI admin have made their criteria for selection to the test team clear, and while I don’t agree with it, it is what it is.

There have been exceptions to criteria throughout the years. Seales is just one example

Not dissimilar to Holding or Fidel or Samuels for that matter

And again for the record, I have zero issue if Lewis is selected for test cricket. I have advocated for it and continue to do so.

But don’t pick on Powell’s failure here to make the case. I’ll repeat, ALL batsmen are most vulnerable early in their innings and Powell’s challenge isn’t that he always gets out early. It’s that he usually gets out when fairly well set
