Why are CPL teams not scoring more runs

In the 2021 tournament?

Small ground
Sunshine for the most part

Bad batting?
Pitches?
Superior bowling?

Bad batting would be my guess from the few matches I have seen.

Remember that because of the pandemic, all the matches have to be played at 1 ground. Last year they had 2 grounds.In addition the matches had to be over in a shortened time because of the rescheduled IPL.When you consider it,I think that Michael Hall and his gang have done a phenomenal job to stage this CPL so far without any incident(touch wood) as an example this weekend there are 3 matches each day.

All the above is to say that it is impossible to prepare batting paradises in these circumstances.

Given that the boundaries for T20 games are routinely shortened, ah doh think the size of the ground is that significant.

I think that the way we play the game where batsmen for the most part are willing to wait 3 or 4 balls to hit a boundary plays a big part in the final score.

At about 1 boundary per over, which is about par for the previous 8 CPL's, and 4.8 runs per boundary ball, teams are scoring 96 runs in 20 balls and 53 in the remaining hundred for an average of 147 runs per inning in 2021. Good bowling or bad batting?

It appears dat we have never been able to prepare batting paradises for the CPL.

The average runs per inning this year (149) was bettered in 2016 (154), 2018 (163) and 2019 (15cool and the average run rate of 7.78 for 2021 is not significantly less than the average for the previous 8 years of 7.82.

In the last 8 versions of the CPL there have been 22 scores of 200 and above. There have been 3 in 2021

IMO the moderate scoring games make the matches more entertaining as it is uncertain who will win until late.

what is the average score in a T20I?

No incentive to post "big scores" (what the hell are big scores, anyway?).

For example, we see people showing up in fancy costumes, hoping to win the prize being offered for fancy costumes. Perhaps if someone in the CPL managing organization thought that "big scores" were a good idea(!) they would have put up prizes for it.

Poor pitches give low scores
It’s the pitch that have everything to do with this

Are the pitches significantly better or worse than those last year? I stand to be corrected but didn't SLU defend scores below 100 twice last year?

camos 2021-09-10 23:55:32

over use of wickets allows for low scores.

doosra 2021-09-11 00:09:08

I watched most of the matches so far and these are my observations

0. Is the average score really lower than previous years'? We need the data smile

1. The wickets were not bad. I can't recall a single instance where the wicket was slow low rank turned etc. They were all decent to good wickets.

2. The amount of dot balls remain a WI problem. The commies noted intl benchmark is around 30 - 40. I can recall only one March with around that number. Suffice to say the final score was good. Our average is between 50 and 60. I don't know what's the average per year for cpl. It'd be nice to see some analysis.

3. The turn around time is short. Tiredness must be a little factor I'm sure.

4. No crowd support. Gaw generally score better at providence. Again need more data.

5. Intl quality batters seem lower than previous years. Lots of washed ups and fringe - Malik Hafez Bopara Patel etc

6. Many Local batters in poor form - pooran hety Gayle hope etc

Etc
big grin big grin big grin

Assuming the data is correct:

Last Year CPL thru 24 matches:

Runs = 5901, 4s = 389, 6s = 269

This Year's CPL thru 24 matches:

Runs = 6574, 4s = 511, 6s = 344

I do not have 2019 CPL.

2018 CPL thru 24 matches

Runs = 6875, 4s = 523, 6s = 378

Runs are down by 301. 6s up men swinging.

2017 CPL thru 24 matches

Runs = 6412, 4s = 452, 6s = 320

I wish I had 2019 at hand. I will look for it.

Actually there are too many variables to make valid comparisons with previous CPL tournaments.
