The way forward for W.I in t20 cricket

It has reached that point in time where we need a change of the old guard. I would like to get some feedback on this. Here is my humble opinion:

For starters, t20 cricket has evolved over the years. Some people don't respect this version of the game but it has its place and is here to stay. Like any sport, people always find ways to improve the way they play. In terms of our team, one thing stands out like a sore thumb and it is a problem that needs to be dealt with. We have heard commentators speaking about it but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Any successful team in cricket needs to understand the importance of rotating the strike.

As a child, there was a game called tip me one or tip me two. The batter would be forced to run off of every ball until the individual was run out. This helped in terms of running between the wickets, understanding your batting partner and how to place the ball into the gaps. One of our major problems is that the players eat up too many dot deliveries. This puts pressure on the team to increase the scoring rate later on in the match. This leads to rash shots and more risk taking rather than building a solid foundation to launch an attack later on.

Think about it, if we can at least make 4 or 5 runs in the tight overs, we can easily make up for it later on With wickets in hand. This World Cup has already exposed us in that aspect. What do you think we should do after we are sent packing from the t20 world cup and which players would you retain and replace?

I don't know if exposed is the right word. Aside from gayle, the other guys can still consistently hit the ball. But the pitches in the UAE are not the pitches in India or Australia. The ball is not going to come on to the bat, as the ipl showed. The 6 or nothing approach, pioneered by the TT red force in the CLT20 2009, and used excellently by two world cup winning sides, cannot work here. You have to be able to take singles

Excellent, now the next point would be assessing playing conditions. We need to find batsmen that know how to pierce the field. There are far too many aerial shots which just comes down to power hitting. We need a combination of both.

They need an inquest into how team management got conditions so wrong.....were they not watching the IPL? The uae pitches were tired before the final, didn't they think it would be worse during a tournament that started less than 48 hours after the IPL final?

Pooran and hety need a FC season as of yesterday. If they could get a county season as well, that would be great. Pooran not getting retained after his struggles this year so hopefully he could play the 4 day tournament

This team, despite being known for power-hitting, still has guys who theoretically know how to bisect the infield, put the ball in places where they can get at worst singles, on a semi-regular basis. What did one of the openers get? 16 from 35? That can't work.

I was saying that too. IDK what went on with simmonds. He's clearly out of form, definitely not playing the next game(even if we had won) and he just put pressure on his partner and the guys who came after

“Theoretically”. That was a nice touch.

Yeah, it just damages everyone else. Guys like Hetmyer, an obvious example.

JOJO - yeah I had to put the qualifier in there, sad to say.

Hetmeyer was looking for runs, like all the other guys after simmons. Somebody has written about it already on cricinfo

I remember a match TT Red force had against guyana in the last Caribbean t20 tournament at QPO. Trinidad was not struggling but we needed to get to at least 190 to be safe. Ramdin in the wicket and had hit a few boundaries but he's not a big hitter and we needed to get Pollard in. Ramdin clearly gives away his wicket and pollard comes in and slaughters Guyana. Of the last three balls of the innings, two go to different parts of the oval stands and the third goes into Ariapita avenue. Simmonds shpould have given his wicket away like Ramdin. You are obviously out of form and we have hitters to come in

The way forward should start with an investigation into how the team was selected for the WC, looking on from beyond the boundary line, it appears like Simmonds and Pollard had heavy influences in the selection process, as some players more deserving were not selected in order to select players more familiar to them. Secondly the Selection group should be shaken up.

That happens all the time. How do you think Holder went with a boyscouts xi to the world cup in 2019 and were beaten to a pulp, even by bangladesh who chased down 300. Both shepherd and rutherford had one good tournament, that don't make you an automatic pick at all. Holder should have played and gayle should have been a mentor(don't think he would have accepted that and i suspect that played a part). Oshane was a good pick i maintain. We saw what SA did with pace bowling in this match. And Ravi was the highest wicket taker in both the super 50 this year and the CPL. He earned his spot

Hit out or Get out, especially when you've got a stable of sluggers yet to come.

Oshane was a good pick i maintain. shock Well at least someone thinks so. He is just where he belongs, off the field. Could someone tell me why Cottrell isn't playing?
