Pooran Future Captain ?

Alan 2021-10-31 04:20:31

Something about this lad.Apart from Jesus Christ and the messup blonde (is it dye?)hair.Step aside Pollard and Kraigg.Captained the team in the Summer against Australia and did well.
Is he potentially a future West Indies captain in all formats? big grin

I believe he has the ability to be a future captain for the W.I and has a decent track record thus far. He is also not afraid to declare the Name of Jesus Christ in his interviews after matches and appears to show a lot of maturity for a young player. Filling in as captain for a team of players with many well beyond his years cannot be easy. He also has the experience at youth level and will certainly improve with more opportunities in the role.

He needs to set the example as a leader he talk the talk but hardly walk the walk. Making a statement such as when asked how he was able to hit certain sixes when others found it difficult? "Making certain shots is due to his talent." Really? The Jesus Christ is another topic by itself.

A captain is a born leader. A person who has the ability to lift the players around him or single handedly win a game for his team. Shows maturity on and off the field.
Pooran is not there as yet.
Forget his faith and dyed head.
He needs to show a competence behind the stumps at a much higher level than he currently shows.
He gets the opportunities to "win" or excel in matches but somehow that extra leap of great ones is nor there as yet.
He just "voops' his way out and then you see him shaking his head or "looking" mad at himself while walking off.
He needs to control a game.
Just before he walks to the wicket he needs to analyze the game and play to suit. He however is not there as yet.
So no Pooran is not captain's material AS YET.
His maturity out in the field is left wanting.

why is Pooran's faith an issue? loud schupse!!

He prayed to Jesus and we won by 3 runs.. the only game we won.Seriously though none of you give him much credit as captain when deputising for injured Pollard in the Summer.Winning games.Allyuh wanna do is pick this man apart. The flirtation with Jesus is just a bit of eccentricity. As with the blonde dye.Lets look at the mans accomplishment as a potential captain and give credit where due. There is something there about him.

It seems that way when I look at the comments.

no such thing as a born leader.

if there is, then there is a born criminal, a born doctor, a born prostitute, a born electrician etc.

It shouldn't be, period.

Two things, that Pooran has made it about his faith during post match interviews have invited fans to comment and unfortunately some have been negative.

In a multi racial, multi ethnic, multi religious pluralistic society such as ours, the captain- who represents all the players and all of us, should be generic in praising a higher being.

How is it as you call it his 'flirtation' with Jesus or his hair being dyed blonde eccentric? Sammy is a Christian and so is Andre Fletcher who apparently is a pastor. I have also seen the team praying before matches. So if as a Christian he gives praise to Christ, how is that any different to other athletes that point to the sky or bow on the ground? I respect the fact that he is not afraid to declare his faith by saying Christ rather than God or the Almighty. As for his dyed hair, how about the others on the team that have done the same such as Fletcher, Russell and Hetmyer? These are just questions I am asking and I am not trying to be contentious.

I agree with you that there is something special about him. Hopefully he will continue to do well when given the opportunity.

I am glad you mentioned that. I remember when Chanderpaul hit the six needed off of the final delivery against Sri Lanka and Bish almost went hoarse in the commentary box. In the interview he said he prayed to Shiva and I can't recall him being given any stick about it.
