CARL HOOPER on the period when he took some time off work to be with his wife and newborn son:
"I thought that I would have made some lifelong friendships with some players I shared the room with for months. But that's not the case. I understood that during my retirement, my telephone wasn't ringing. None of my team-mates calling up to say, 'Carl, are you doing okay?' The only person I heard from was Brian Lara, who was the captain at the time, and he was asking me when I was going to come back. But nobody else called."

I would say Carl was an unfulfilled talent who could have become one of the greats.Nothing much more you can say about him.Except stop moaning and good luck in your retirement.

Some peeps will be upset about that

Yeah, it does not fit the narrative of the selfish Lara.

My question is did Hooper call anyone?

Left to interpretation, one could say Lara's singular interest was for Hooper to come back in the team to help him.
I am not saying so though, just pointing out that it could be so said.

Lara's reputation in the region still suffers from the tripe cozier, holding and a host of other misanthropes put out. Not internationally but definitely in the region.
