He added: “To be honest I’m not really dwelling on my stats too much in first class cricket.

“This is a new chapter, a new stage in my career so I’m looking forward to having a great career in Test cricket and once given the chance, I would like to prove the selectors right by giving them good performances.”

Solanzo has enormous potential and there is something about him that screams he is a future.

The FC stats is irrelevant since there isn't anything to go by among the various batters vying for the opening slot.

Posters in here don't really understand stats and talent, thus this post.

Sureky you need to explain to all of us the difference between stats and talent. IMO if a batter playing in our PCL which is not the stongest in the world (and that is an understatement) after batting 73 times could only Av 23 that batter does not have enormous potential or talent. I know our cricket at the moment is poor but giving a test debut to a 26 year old who av 23 in 40 FC matches is surely rediculous. Which other test playing country would do somethong like this.

For me the better option would be Hemraj from Guyana but he is not even in the set up.

Maybe Dukes may be referring to the opening batsmen of BOTH teams.

Solozano said: “Not really under pressure with the environment that I am in and the team around me. It is just to go out there and enjoy it and once you enjoy your game and enjoy training, everything will fall into place.”

After supporting Chandrika's selection, I am staying 4000 miles from having any say in Solozano selection.

Serious consideration should be given to Hemraj playing at least two formats. Test n Odi. I still have great hopes for a focused Mayers but does not believe he is that better than Hemraj. Both should be in WI squads. Hemraj as a two format opener of course.

At this point with the talent and production of the openers around, I opine Hemraj can play all three formats. He is no world beater by any means, and some in the know question his fitness. However, if Evin Lewis(the best we have in my opinion) is not interested in tests and ODI, then Hemraj who also offers a bit of spin bowling should be the next option at this point. Let’s see what this FC season produces…I also wish Solozano every success on this great opportunity.

That's the solution that's been staring us in the face for 2 years now. DaSilva to open with technique being better than most. Hope to keep and significantly strengthen lower order

Lol. Said same about Philo recently albeit not as poetically. Unfortunately because our CWI president lives and breathes politics people like Philo who have a megaphone are given undue consideration. I understand now he has been appointed to some selection review committee? rolleyes

i will repeat myself for the last time re Hemraj

the reason he gets out so often after as a start is his fitness - he huffs and puffs too quickly
intl cricket is tougher, you need to stick it out at times - that calls for increase fitness (not fitness alone, but you need to be fit to just withstand it, Shiv is the best example)

if he cannot improve his fitness, he will be not move that average above 30

i am not holding my breath

Tage is a better prospect this way but he too has has not improved his game too much - at times he appear to be progressing then he would dish out a string of 5 6, 7 low scores

we do not know when FC cricket will resume so life goes on

This begs the question about fitness tests.

They don't do them in Guyana before selecting teams? Hemraj is a constant in the Guyana setup so he must be passing the tests or he has friends in high places....

Hemraj never passed the fitness test in Guyana.. most of the Jaguar and regional players don't reach the benchmark set by CWI.. which is 40.

De guys who pass it with ease are Motie and Imlach..
