Wasn't a "focus on the future" what the ignoble HHC regime advocated about 15 years ago when it jettisoned the more talented players-Sarwan, Gayle, Bravo,Taylor, etc- for more malleable, if less talented, players like Sammy, et al, to lead the way forward?

The "HPC guys",presumably the likes of Hope,Brathwaith,Barath, Dowich, et al, were supposed to form the core of an ascendant "star team" to replace the "team of stars" comprising the jaded prima donnas like Samuels, Sarwan,Gayle, et al, who they conspired to "root out of West Indies cricket".

Now that the much touted,young "HPC guys" have been found equally wanting,what next?

I agree with Philo Wallace on one basis.

The point of changing from the old captains to the new (which we should) is not simply for the sake of change, otherwise nothing will be different from what has been for decades.

This this needed to allow for the drastic and paradigm shift in the way we develop our players.

Some issues identified:

1 From the grassroots up we need to devise a system for playing quality spin bowling

2 the current protocols are archaic and needs to be revamped

3 We needed to quickly revert to increasing the number of teams and matches in our FC season.

4 Reimplementation of the grassroots program with emphasis on addressing known weaknesses in WI cricket

5 Provide assistance in the implementation and require set uniform standards and structures across all countries (not just territories) in the region. This should include the number of tournaments and matches at all age groups.

6 A system to identify and develop upcoming fast bowlers. We may well do the same for the other disciplines but with special emphasis on fast bowling, inclusive of nutrition and training

The HPC guys were rushed into international cricket because Cameron had an issue with the stars. You will never have a good cricket team falling out with your best players

When the decline in West Indies cricket started?
As I watch the Ashes and India vs NZ series, I am also following Australia A vs England Lions, and India A vs SouthAfrica A.
Anyone who think playing only regional cricket is enough to prepare players, is dreaming.
BTW, England U19 is also playing in SL.

Jumpy can put all his lipstick on his pig, Jumpy it is still a pig.
Our teams are not prepared for International cricket, the guys need to be playing more cricket, and have learning centres.
The strongest format is T20, our poor cricket in that format has been expose, selection of players was the culprit, you cannot have Gayle who is past his prime, along with Pollard, Holder, Russell, Bravo playing the same role.
Two of the four, should be able to bat8-10 overs regularly, not swing to the fence from ball one.
The test team is mediocre, the coaching staff and senior players are to be blame for this, you cannot have senior players getting out, making the very same mistakes, repeatedly.

Agree.....Every regime did surely have its low and high...be it Hunte or Cameron.... Analysis on basis of performance , results and development of new players reveals the truth...even as a staunch supporter one may continue to argue....an administration can't keep on blaming previous one , after each failure....more so after making wholesale changes in administration, management as well as team....all players Joseph,Hety,Keemo,Chemar Holder.... have their career down spiral.....under the present administration and management...no planning by either of them to guide these players ...these players were in and around the senior team just few years ago....and performing admirably ....on world stage...
As for Jumpy....his obsession to blame predecessors after every failed decision ...by administration and management... arises out of his extreme hatred for certain people and region...let Jumpy state 3 steps taken by Skerritt and Co. ....which enhance the quality of West Indies cricket at large...be it administration or management or performance...

The decline started when viv was captain and the team became increasingly reliant on G&H, Viv and co who were all over 30 by then. Viv actually wrote in his first book, "Hitting Across the Line", that WI cricket was in big trouble if we did not startinvesting in the next generation. The one side that could cope to a reasonable degree with our style if cricket was Pakistan, because they played a very similar brand. People even refer to Pakistan as a West Indian side in Asia. But the other teams became more competitive as the WI git weaker

Some argue it declined when Dinas took over WIPA and despite some of the progressive things he achieved he used it as a weapon

Sure.....dat explains why Barbados' last great cricketer was frm the 1970s. Dinas blighting the WI since he was a toddler
