The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Interim Selection Panel today announced the squads for the upcoming series against Ireland and England. The West Indies will start the new year at Sabina Park, Jamaica as they host Ireland in the three-match CG Insurance One-Day International (ODI) Series and a one-off CG Insurance T20 International (T20I) from January 8 to 16. The two-time World Champions will then travel to Barbados to face England in five T20Is at Kensington Oval from January 22 to 30.

“We have tried to maintain the general make-up of the squads from the Pakistan Tour before Christmas, with the captain and some senior players coming back in. COVID-19 has also played a part in the final make-up of the squad. The challenges in the next couple of months are getting the young players in both squads to not only improve on their skills but maintain the attitude and desire we saw in Pakistan,” Head Coach Phil Simmons said.

According to Simmons the reason Hety wasn't picked is because he failed the fitness test.

According to the GCB the assessment that they did was not official and the whole idea was for them to see where players at currently.. and they plan to do two more before the Jaguars team is selected..

It's strange that Simmons and the CWI used an unofficial test to omit Hety.. did the other players do a fitness in recent weeks before they announced the WI squads?

Young men under 30 have no reason to be failing fitness tests, unless they are a special case like Cornwall who to put it simply ass to fat.

Express your frustrations to the so called professional athlete. You're asking if Hetty looks unfit, like he hasn't been guilty of failing multiple fitness tests in the past.

I'm pretty sure Lewis have been dropped in the past because of failed fitness tests.
This is professional sports injuries do happen and some players are injury prone.
What them getting sick or injured have to do with being fit and able when they take the field to play professional sports?

The board: Players get fit, pass the standard WICB fitness test which shows that you are fit enough for the demands of international cricket and you are eligible for selection.

WI fans: The board so evil, the board badmind. yadiyadayada.


If the players ate healthier, do a lil exercise then there wouldn't be all this nonsense going on. It is up to the players, big grown ass men, professionals, to do their part.

I have no records of the internals workings of the WICB but I do trust official WICB releases when they say a player has failed a fitness. I have no reason to believe they would be lying.

Nuff men on that squad didn't pass the fitness test.. if the jokers at CWI brave enough they should release the results for each player.. guarantee yuh more than half didn't pass 40.. including the skipper who don't even do the test.

I doubt it even bother Hety.. I'm sure his focus will be on those t20 franchises around the world.. who needs CWI?

If men failing the fitness test or scoring at players like Hety ranges and still getting picked then that is pure shit.
The only exceptions I'd give is the older players (probably 32 and above when fitness starts to decline, note the word probably) and some as unfit as Cornwall.
For Cornwall's case tho, he should be required to show fitness improvements for each series or something like that. (Let say he can do 5 push ups then next series 6, following one 7, etc. If he isn't improving then he sits out. Obviously push up ain't the fitness measure they should used but I just used it as an example to show the progressions)

No exception for any player.. Jimmy Anderson is one of the oldest players in the England setup and yet he is one of the fittest England players. CWI need to cut that exemption crap out.. no other international board does it. What goes for one should go for all.

The test was for the coaches to get an idea as to where players at and to develop plans to get them to where they want.. its not even the official test to select the Jaguars team. They got at least two more before the official test.

Where is Chris Gayle? On a serious note I hope we can win the ODIs and the one off t20. I think the team improved in the t20 series in Pakistan in the 2nd and 3rd match. Yes we were beaten 3-0 but it was good to see King, Shepherd and Smith give a decent account of themselves.

Cornwall is lazy. That size is clear indication of a lifetime of eating. If he had the will to lose weight he would have lost it already. I now conclude that Hetmyer is not interested in playing for the West Indies except on the Big stage, meaning World Cup. So once it’s not World Cup the man knows what he has to do to basically fail the fitness test that’s required for selection. I feel cricket West Indies should ban him from all forms of cricket in the Caribbean whether it’s CPL, Regional tournament or even club cricket until he passes the basic physical that’s required for West Indies selection.

Brown and Harper took our cricket to ICU and Simmons as Head Coach killed it and instead of getting rid of Simmons he is chief selector?

In our search for chief selector we should look for someone who is able to see talent from a distance and the only suitable person I can see is the man that was able to see potential in a young chap from Barbados during net practice, with no first class experience and told the Bajan selectors I want Fedel Edwards on my team and it so happens that since the days of Holding, Marshall, Croft Ganner, Fedel Edwards has been our best fast bowler. So you know I am referring to Brian Charles Lara as our head coach. I firmly believe if our selectors especially chief selectors of yesteryear could identify talent Joffre Archer would not be playing for England today. So CWI should reach out to Brian Lara and get him to be our lead selector period. Brown Harper and now Simmons sure don’t have that cricket brain and instinct
