HEADLINE: ‘There is no excuse,’ Pollard says WINDIES batsmen must take stock

The rescheduled 2nd One Day International (ODI) between the West Indies and Ireland gave the Irish a chance to get back into the three-match series, which they trailed one-nil, following a 24-run defeat on Saturday. And in an effort to do just that, the visitors won the toss and inserted Pollard’s men.

West Indies’ struggles in the powerplay continued, as the Caribbean side was limited to just 3.90 rpo inside the first 10 overs while losing the wicket of Shai Hope. And there would be no injection of momentum where the West Indian innings was concerned; and from that slip, the West Indies sled—losing the next 6 wickets for 105 runs.

West Indies captain, Kieron Pollard spoke after the game:

“As I said when we won the first game, throughout the tournament, the toss is going to be a massive factor. Obviously, there is a lot of moisture here, with a lot of grass on the track. So, as I said before: our techniques will be tested. And two games out of two, we have found ourselves [three or four] wickets down inside the first 20 overs."

The geniuses at CWI don’t have a clue..
Pollard has zero skills in bringing along players at the international level.. I mean grooming.
Pollard is successful at circus cricket and at circus cricket if you fail the owners just tell you to PHUCK off..
In that set up there is no grooming as every man for himself ..
We are seeing that Pollard has no PHUCKING clue ..at the international level..
He needs to improve and then criticize.. until then he should just be a spectator ..
Hey but what do you expect ??

Just when I thought West Indies Cricket couldn't get any worse they proved me wrong .

Let us be fair. The Irish bowled and batted well. Even when put under pressure, they have held their nerves in the field and have bowled us out at home twice without allowing us to bat 50 overs. We have been outplayed by the better team. We did the same to them in their backyard in 2019 when Shai Hope, Campbell and Ambris murdered their bowling. I was there and it was carnage. They are just getting their revenge. Good for them that we do not have a decent batsman to stand up to them. This is just a preview of more licks to come for the rest of the year unless our batting improves dramatically.

Saying Ireland is a better team than West Indies shows that this team truly is poor. We should be whitewashing Ireland. It is a disgrace to see the state of our cricket. I shudder to think what will hapoen when we face England. By then Ireland would have won their first series against us. I would love the match to get rained out. West Indies don't handle pressure well.

I think people are well aware of this natty. What hurts is that this team is losing to a team they should be easily beating. I have said it before many times. The biggest problem with the W.I is that the batsmen don't know how to rotate the strike. We have seen that this is a problem too in t20 cricket. Until the understanding of running between the wickets changes, our team will continue to struggle.

Good post imho...but the problem of not rotating strike is a symptom of a problem not the problem itself. The problem that should be addressed is the poor technical ability of our players.

I am perplexed as to why CWI has not recognized this as a major problem which needed to be addressed eons ago. So let's solve the real problem...

Point noted. It is true, one has to have the technical ability to rotate the strike, ie playing with soft hands, taking the pace off the ball and placing the ball in gaps to run the 1s and 2s, rather than slapping the ball straight to fielders. Also, a lot of our players are lazy. People talk about Hetmyer but at least he is a busy player, always looking to rotate the strike. My question is, are the men placed on a strict diet and given set hours to do gym work? Is there a fitness coach in our setup? If CWI wants fit players ensure that they are placed on proper programs to maintain fitness levels. This is what happens in other professional sports.

You are expecting too much from a current cricket structure that operates like a social welfare programme.
