HEADLINE: ‘Holistic approach needed to take WINDIES cricket forward,’ Pollard honest in his review as West Indies lose ODI series to Ireland

The West Indies went down by 2 wickets to Ireland on Sunday evening at Sabina Park, as the visitors completed the comeback, in recording a 2-1 series victory, walking away with 20 of the available 30 ICC Super League points.

For the third time in as many games, Ireland won the toss and elected to field. And with more intent than ever before, Shai Hope gave WINDIES their best start of the series. The Barbadian raced to his fastest ever One Day-International (ODI) half-century, bringing up the feat in just 37 deliveries, consequently hauling his team to their highest powerplay score of the series: 74 without loss at the end of 10 overs.

West Indies captain, Kieron Pollard had some strong words following the series loss:

“And yes, we are the face as we play on the field, but there is a holistic approach [that is needed] in order for this thing to move forward. It’s not just us. We can take responsibility for performances on the field, but throughout the region, some of the mediocrity that’s coming out, we tend to praise that. I might get in a lot of trouble for saying what I said, but that is the honest truth."

Well he is right about poor players. At least he has the honesty to blame the players and not the WICB. The fact is that the players are poor. I am a big fan of WI cricket who hasnt been following that closely recently...but as a fan of 36 years, when a WI team is picked and you dont hear about half the players through word of mouth priot to selection then you know that the player isnt nothing to write home about. When a player is truly good you hear about him before he gets anywhere near the test team. For example, I was hearing about Bishop and Lara and even Sherwin Campbell way way before they got anywhere near WI selection.

Nowadays you turn on your Tv and you see a WI team and you ask: 'who is he'? and the answer is 'I THINK he is from ''so and so'' country'.

In my opinion I don’t think Greaves has done enough on the regional scene to be opening for West Indies. I don’t even think he should be in a Best verses Best 11. What happened to John Campbell? Since the hostile over Pooran got from Fedel Edwards in the IPL last year, where he got bounced his confidence is very low and I don’t think he should be batting #3. But on this present team could bat at #3? Chase is very disappointing and I would even bat Husain ahead of him. All in all the selectors picked a very poor batting team and without Hetty, Bravo, Powell and even Mohammed I didn’t expect anything different

Just think of a team where Phil Simmons is the head selector and and head coach and tell me if you expected anything different. Very sad state of affairs. If Phil cares about West Indies cricket he should just submit his resignation so the change that’s needed could happen. I don’t think the board can fire him because of the terms of the contract they gave him

You are not a fan, I live 4000 miles away from the region and is aware of everyone that is selected.

I will ask again is pollard including himself in the mediocrity?
Don't come at the end of a series and talk about mediocrity when you yourself haven't led by example.
BTW who pick the team?
