Head coach Phil Simmons conceded Friday that West Indies’ frail batting required “urgent attention” after the Caribbean side were whitewashed by India following a 96-run defeat in the final One-Day International.

West Indies failed to reach 200 in any of the three matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, dismissed for 176, 193 and 169, with all-rounder Jason Holder the only player to notch a half-century.

“It (batting) does need urgent attention because it has just lost us the last two games,” Simmons said.

It might be time to get a new batting coach. Don't worry Phil, your job is safe.

Sorry Phil.

As a professional, you should be fired.

That is your job as a coach to do.

What are your recommendations.
You sit on a chair without pen and paper
Looking like you don't even care.

Better coaches getting fired for better performances.

I mean no disrespect. but...

Watching the last ODI the a Commie spoke about Kuldeep Yadav, and the work he put in.
The Commie said he was bowling at an angle, but his body was not in line or in a position for the angles he was bowling from, it reminded me of Toby Radford speaking of Bonner being side on to Lakmal, who after correcting it, when on to score his first test ton.
I am yet hear such teaching of a coach in the region, how cannot other coaches see videos and work with players, and CWI coaches cannot?

Who replaces Monty as batting coach and Simmons as head coach? I have never seen Simmons look as aggressive as he has in recent times. Who has the guts to fire the big man lol ?

It certainly sounds like you're advocating the reinstatement of the Big IDIOT as head of the WICB organization.

Some of the WI batter's technique may not be sound. But there is a lot I see that is the Coach's responsibility. The most glaring example I saw, was Brooks turning his back on Holder; refusing an easy second run so he could keep the strike. Then he gets out caught at long on, and did not leave his crease. So instead of Holder facing the next delivery, the new batsman had to.
Correcting this sort of nonsense is the Head Coach's responsibility.

Come to think of it, Simmo might be underperforming on purpose. He just might be trying for a repeat of the firing administered under the Big IDIOT, then he can get another big payday for doing nothing. I hope his contract will hold up.

When the Coach is reporting that the players need help, then WI team is in dire straits, as my Bajie co-worker and I were discussing today about the pathetic WI batting display over the last number of match. Unless CWI provides some type of intervention, then we probably should start downsizing cricket as a sport in these WI islands.
Honestly, the only real purpose and function of the current WI team, is to audition our players for IPL and other leagues around the world. Anyway, so much about the criticisms, the real question facing CWI and WI fans is what can the done to change around the fortunes of WI cricket? I am suggesting that we should start paying players based on performance.

Of course the Coach has a very important role to play but how much can a coach do on tour, which seems to be the only time the coach has with them. The players have a responsibility to do their home work and be ready. I harken back to both Shiv Chanderpaul and Sir Curtly Ambrose. Shiv spent 8 hours per day, on his own time, batting with his bowling machine, in the hot sun. He was simulating a game situation of a day's play.
Sir Curtly would put a marker on the pitch and bowl for hours, hitting that mark. Anyone who saw the video from last Friday where he was coaching fast bowlers in Berbice, Guyana, would have seen him teach them that technique. Length and line. Length and line. Variations like speed and swing have to follow the basics.

“When you’re bowling India out for 230 and 260 you expect to chase it. Just under a year ago we were cruising to 280 and 290 against Sri Lanka who have similar spinners and things like that."

That's something the coach needs to figure out. What has went wrong?

Wrong that was the primary school PE teacher's responsibility if not his big brother's who should've 'kuffed' him when he did that while batting with him.

Pay them like this and watch them play....

The total price paid for the West Indies players is US$10,855 million.

The 17 West Indians make up the largest number of foreign players in the IPL, from any territory outside of India.
