is he another south african in the wings?
never heard of him
In reply to shivnotout
He was part of the Harper and company selection, he never got to bat in his first test.
Erwee came into this test with one test other under his belt, from which he batted in both innings for a total or 10 runs (avg 5.00).
If he were West Indian, does anyone think he would've gotten this second chance?
Oops, sorry. I'm late in asking this question.
Next time I'll read the entire thread before posting.
10 yrs ago i remember most of the South African test batsmen averaged ~50 in FC.
Now most of them are at ~40,
In the WI if you average ~30, that means an automatic test pick
24 and you in the running!

Ain't he averaging 30 somtin' after all these FC and years. Howe many FC Tons Devon have and how many recalls he got. It doesn't always equate.
In reply to Brerzerk Took a hell of a long time. But he may score his usual two Test a year

There were guys like Martin Van Jaarsveld that averaged 45 in domestic and couldn't buy a game in the SA squad back in those days.

He probably had to make a 50 in his last game to stay in contention for a selection and scored a 49 and got dropped (against England . More or less the same team that trampled Aus in 2005)

Van Jaar was a solid batsman indeed
