FORMER TT and West Indies fast bowler Tony Gray believes West Indies women star batters Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews must step up during the 2022 International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup. However, Gray said the team must not rely too much on the quality trio.
West Indies will play the opening match of the tournament against home team New Zealand from 9 pm, TT time, on Thursday
Often times the success of the West Indies batting depends on how many runs Taylor, Dotttin and Matthews contribute.
However, other players have scored runs in recent months including number three batter Kycia Knight.
“I think that obviously there must not be a dependency on the three main players,” Gray said.
“We cannot depend on them. We have to have great all-round performances by everybody and the dependency syndrome on three of the main players must stop.”

What I've seen happen over the past 3 months or so of looking at the ladies is the fact that DD or Stef doesn't show up and then our batting falters. The bowling to me I'm not too troubled by but we need not just the trio to do well but everyone. Once DD comes off we are heavily favoured to win the match, but there are times when she might start slow and then we start losing wickets at the other end. Plus the recent injury to the captain isn't helping. But I think once the girls start well they'll be ok.

Well New Zealand is showing that all you need are 3 batsmen to raise their hand.
Their 3 stars are batting at positions 1 2 and 3

You are absolutely correct!....Rate of scoring in the Women's game have grown so much that you can't afford to dither around. I would still prefer Dottin, Taylor and Matthews at the Top of the order. If we lose them, then we just try and bat out the 50 overs(if we bat first). And hope the bowlers can do the job.
And I prefer this Format, where everyone plays everyone, than the U19 grouping.
