In SVG Breadnuts from the Breadnut Trees are generally Boiled.
Raw Breadnuts are in cased in a green skin similar to the skin of the Breadfruit .

I have no idea, Breadnuts in SVG are generally boiled, the nuts all have a skin , which the encloses each individual Breadnut, then they are also cushioned by another layer , and
then there is the outer skin that covers everything .

In SVG , the Nuts themselves are boiled , and then eaten ;
Perhaps They maybe the same thing. I have not eaten Breadnuts in a long time . It is quite possible that it is prepared
differently in Guyana than it is in SVG . It is also possible
that what in Guyana , and other Countries in the Region call Jackfruit, in SVG is called Breadnuts .

Same....most people eat the seeds which is called Breadnut.

I have never had the fruit itself....but man, boiled breadnut is really great as a snack.

Just last week I had the curry with shrimp and roti.
Many-many years ago, my late dad's brother-in-law ask him to get a breadfruit tree for him. My dad, in one of his mischievous moments, got him a breadnut tree instead. He only foundout when the tree started to bear. He said if he had known, he would a cut it down. Sadly, both of them R gone, but the tree is still there.

I thought jack fruit was the one U cut open when it's ripe and eat the fruit. It resembles bread nut, but U don't cook it, and it has a very high but pleasant scent.

Isn't the fruit of the jackfruit way bigger than both the breadnut and breadfruit?

Curtis 2022-03-08 14:27:57

We can certainly eat locally and be Healthy

That's certainly jackfruit. Its nut-like seeds are edible too; in my bwoy days we would boil or roast them. In fact, they look kinda similar to what I'm seeing of the breadnut.

Jackfruit is more like Kowa

What they sell as Jackfruit in the UK is sometimes not Chataigne

Jackfruit is called Kowa in T&T. Kowa seeds are roasted

When Chataigne is ripe and fall from the tree , the seeds are boiled (water and salt)
Taste great.

Breadfruit in T&T

Breadfruit is in season now. Its unique flavour and texture produces the great oiled down when simmered in a coconut milk broth, fired up with hot peppers, and flavoured with local herbs; an oiled down (oil- down, run-down, mettagee) is certainly one of the most delicious local dishes around. Whipped, baked, whole-roasted, fried, sautéed or souffled, it’s a cook’s dream ingredient because of its versatility.
There are two types available, the white and yellow breadfruit, the latter tends to be the favourite because the flesh has a creamier texture and flavour than the white breadfruit which tends to be drier in texture. It is a good source of complex carbohydrates and is rich in vitamins A, B and C.

How do you buy a perfect breadfruit? It’s tricky, the last few times I went to the market the breadfruit were noticeably small, upon inquiring “why “? The responses were “We like to pick the breadfruit young” and "this is a grafted variety,” – a red flag both times.

Breadfruit must be full when picked for optimum taste satisfaction, so picking a breadfruit young will result in a hard-to-boil, tasteless and stringy-in-texture breadfruit. If you bring home a breadfruit and cannot cook it the same day, place it in a bucket and cover it with water, it will stay until the next day. Remember breadfruit once picked at its peak, will ripen very quickly.

Get some saltfish , soak it in water overnight, get the salt out.

Get a full Breadfruit , peel the skin off , cut it in pieces, boil till soft.
Drain water.
Get a pot , put some olive oil in , heat oil , throw saltfish with a Spanish Onion in oil, let it cook for a minute ,
Throw boiled breadfruit in cook till water dries off. Add salt and a whole pepper cut in two pieces.. Constantly stirring so it doesn't burn.

You can do the same with Cassava, dasheen , Yam, eddoes etc...serve as a side dish.

We did the above in Moruga with the scorpion pepper.

I prefer cassava.

I think everyone of Caribbean origin knows how to cook saltfish and cassava.
