The killing of one school boy by another yesterday at William Knibb was the first time I ever heard about dis. Apparently the killer accused the deceased of stealing his guard ring.
Is dis some male Lodge or obeah ting? I have been here close to fifty years and had never heard about it until last night.
Word is that there are many dance hall songs about these things dat mek it to Youtube or other platforms although they are banned on radio.

Sorry our loved homeland has gone into the pits. School children ? Guard rings, Murder ?
Heard of rings back in the day..the prized one was from duLaurence?? Worn
and coveted by those who dealt in the occult. Was supposed to be better than
practices of obeah.
Never would believe this belief system would have filtered to such depths in these
advanced days of learning. Once this becomes so entrenched in the youth, there is very little hope
of progress in the Island.
Wow.

Not only that you give hand signals to see if the judge or law enforcement person(s) arr
of your Lodge etc.
I inadvertently gave such a signal once on west 14th Street and 7th Ave in Manhattan and was approached by an
older gentleman who asked me what help I needed. When I told him ,none he realized I was buck up a signal and he quickly and
cordially departed.
I had friends in the Yard who were Free Foresters and always bugged me to link up but my Beliefs on these things
were and remain too strong to participate. We remained friends however.

So how come the ring didnt save his life? Idiots

Guard ring isn't just a Jamaican occult thing. A few years ago I met a very devout St. Vincent Anglican (Episcopalian) gentleman in Orlando who was proudly showing off his guard ring and his little phial containing rice grains. He was trying to talk my wife's aunt into purchasing a ring. Said he got his ring straight from DLaurence. As a little boy I heard of people getting guard rings from DLaurence especially farm workers returning from the US. Knew one family whose daughter who passed her 3rd year exam invested in a guard ring for her. Obeah and DLaurence are supposedly very common with the scammers. A wonder how old DLaurence is.
In reply to DonD
lol about 200
In reply to DonD
It was said if you owe DeLaurence money he'd rain stones on your roof at nights
to terrorize you but you'd be scared to get out and see what's going on but never see
anything come morning.
Turns out men were throwing big pieces of ice which would be melted by daylight.

Yes. I can see how these modern day scammers can gain substantially from those who are easily fooled
with all that's going on in the world.
Suggests that Jamaica has too many useless churches too.
In reply to Brerzerk
My father was a Lodge man and I never knew about a guard ring.
In reply to hubert
Did you notice that I mentioned DLaurence in the Rumshop fi the Pommie newcomer Lawrence?
Lodge ting and Dey symbols go way back across all societies.
Never knew kids had them tho
In reply to Chrissy
According to the most recent regulations of the Jamaica Customs, prohibited items that are absolutely forbidden from entering Jamaica include "All publications of de Laurence Scott and Company of Chicago in the United States of America relating to divination, magic, cultism or supernatural arts."

In reply to Chrissy
I believe they were two separate things. The Lodge men do wear a ring, but that is not the guard ring.
The guard ring is straight obeah.
