I cant recall if we ever had this discussion. Anyone care to make some suggestions? Nikita Miller? Imran Khan? Ralston Otto? Dave Joseph?

In reply to VoopsandOut
I was at Mount Vernon stadium years ago, Otto had just played a lofted off drive that sailed over the roof. Desmond Haynes was having a chat with Slocombe who he had played youth cricket with for Spartan, he said Otto was the best player he had seen not to have played Test cricket.
In reply to VoopsandOut
two that comes to mind are: Timur Mohammed and andrew light
Milton Pydana
In reply to Drapsey
Neville Bonitto
If you have never heard of him, ask DonDor Ewart
In reply to WI_cricfan
Pydana toured India with Kallicharrans team
Randolph Ramnarace. He played with the World XI against Oz but never selected for WI
Mark Neita if now hell be tops in this era
i think that Nanaan did play test cricket. I remember Richard deSouza from the 70s. The days when cricketers did not need to look fit.
In reply to Raggs
Mark Harper as well?
In reply to Raggs
Mark Neita tops in what?
Did Richard Gabriel played Tests?
Leslaine Lambert is also one!
Ganesh Mahabir too.

Don't agree, he at times ran from Bajan Pace. Better you had said Delroy Morgan or even his opening partner Wayne.
Emmerson Trotman
Thelston Payne
Franklyn Stephenson
There was also a Dottie named Livingstone Sargeant.
I actually saw him play once, but by then he was already long in the tooth.
In reply to Baje
George Rock
In reply to NYCGURU
was Slocombe an off spinner from the great school in the North.
In reply to imusic

In reply to Baje

In reply to tc1
music man adds using his fingers and toes
Andrew Richardson
In a time where there was a real fast bowling drought he had incredible FC numbers
Real surprise he never got a nod
In reply to conman
He actually got picked, but with compliments of Dinas (Jumpstart) and his most inopportune WIPA strike, wasn't able to take advantage.
In reply to Bajemany people still feel hewas a better keeper than dujon but dujon the better batsman
In reply to Raisedseam
his pan has wrong notes.
In reply to tc1
Yes he is an off spinner, but am not sure which school he attended. I played with him for Lucas in the Metropolitan league for years. He still plays Masters cricket for a team in Atlanta.
In reply to NYCGURU
I saw him a couple of years ago at Canarsie Park, we went to the same school, I was ahead of him.
In reply to conman

Richardsons time had come.
He was selected for WI squad to England. Didnt play on that tour but would likely have made his debut against Bangladesh in the following home series.
Then majority of WI players went on Strike. Reifer and Sammy came in and subsequently went to the World Cup with a scab team.
Richardson was a casualty of that industrial action. His reward was a position in Wavells WIPA.
Thats my recollection anyway. I could be wrong.
Yammy would know more
In reply to tc1
Hooper could bat.
Pagon could bat
Samuels could bat
Etc etc
All underachieved. So did Gabriel.
KB cannot bat. Hes an excellent blocker tho.
In reply to velo
You sure about that? As I remember it Bim pushed him as a keeper to advance him but had better keepers and Mike Worrell from Empire had been the bajan keeper around 83 or so while Payne made the bajan team purely as a batsman.
I note that the majority of responses have been about batsmen. What about bowlers?
Anthony Merrick
George Ferris
Casper Davis who I rated above Cameron Cuffy.
Other notable batsmen include...
Luther Kelly
Livingstone Lawrence
In reply to velo
I doh know bout many people, but for me dat is Fake News
Thelston Payne was a very average wicketkeeper. He was a decent batsman and made the Barbados team as such.
I would not say that Paynes keeping was at all better than Dijons and Dijons batting spoke for itself.
The best keeper around in those times was David Murray followed by David Williams and Ignatius Cadette.
Williams couldnt bat for shit. Murray was slightly better with the bat and Cadette was the best batsman of that 3.
Payne would have been a better bat than Cadette. But as a keeper? Nah ..dat jokey.
In reply to VoopsandOut
Many many times in the past
In reply to Narper
Very much so the names of the almost men remain the same
In reply to Raggs
In reply to imusic
does that make sense to you?
Charlie Davis was a blocker, but he could bat.
In reply to tc1
Was a time a ton against Bim automatically bestowed a place in WI squad
Rex Ramnarace,Winston English, Edwin Mohammed and Lloyd Cornelius from Guyana .
In reply to VoopsandOut
Shane Julien- had a great domestic career.
In reply to tc1
How can you describe one of the best WI batsman as a blocker . Did you ever see Charlie exquisite cover drive? .He ended his relatively short career with an average of over 50.
Nobody saying Keiron Pollard?
In reply to Priapus
Merrick and Ferris were two very good fast bowlers.
In reply to imusic
Williams couldnt bat for shit. Murray was slightly better with the bat and Cadette was the best batsman of that 3
I agree that David Murray was the best wicketkeeper of the 3.
He was also the best batsman of the 3 and it is not even close.I remember on a tour of England David Murray mad a great century against Kent and Clive Lloyd talked about it repeatedly.
As a matter of fact, he felt that David Murray was a better batsman than Derrick Murray..
In reply to Raisedseam
you are correct.
In reply to Massy
if you compare the SR of Charlie Davis with KB , you may be surprised to see than KB may have a better SR than Davis. Davis played very little test cricket and for than reason it difficult to consider him a 'best west Indian batsman'. When he was at the crease his batting mimic KB.
Ralston Otto and Linden Joseph
In reply to Dukes
Disagree that Murray was better Keeper than Cadet. Findley selectors bias kept Cadet out for an old 40s and going g Findley. Seen them all up close and Cadet was the bravest, better shot maker and quickest glove hand of the 3. Cadet used to stand up to the stumps to Nobert Phillip,Shilling ford etc for Wndwards and Combine. Seen him stump a few from there off seamers. I think he scored a double Ton on Tour of England vs a County side back in the day after getting his jaw broken and wired up.
Cadet made way early for those after him saying he won't block the youngsters chances like Findley did to him.
Marshall Francis offspinner
In reply to imusic
I heard Micheal holding say more than once that David Murray was a better batsman and wicket keeper than Dujon. I heard
other people including past players talk about how good he was but severely underperformed in West Indies colors.
gabriel only represented West Indies in a tri-series in Australia. he never played test cricket.
best not to play test, maybe Jim Allen and hartley Alleyne
Ignatius Cadet was the best wicketkeeper of his time not to make the time although Dominicans will say dat Gifford Walsh was just as good.
In reply to imusic
Dat sending off incident was in a Benson and Hedges LO match
In reply to Priapus
Casper Davis had injury problems seems similar to Obed McCoy. Is it a Vincy ting?
Franklyn Stephenson
Hartley Alleyne
In reply to methodic
I tend to agree that David Murray was a better keeper and batsman than Jeff Dujon .
David used to bat at No 3 in a very strong Bdos batting lineup .
However, his departure to the Rebel Tour and his drug addiction defaulted his career and the great Jeff Dujon was the benificinary.
In reply to birdseye
Was he a Clarendon College Alum?
He was a K.C. boy.
In reply to tc1
does that make sense to you?
Charlie Davis was a blocker, but he could bat.

In reply to Maispwi
and did not distinguish himself. Just a good FC player. Doubt he would've done well in tests either as keeper or batsman
In reply to velo
Absolute Joke-Payne was made into a keeper and wasn't a good one. In his one test as keeper he was God-awful.
In reply to birdseye
KC so too his dad CHURCHILL NIETA
Yours Truly. Selectors were biased, never even got called to Trials for GT.
In reply to Scar
Methinks you are mistaken
Cadet had 10 stumpings in first class cricket.5 were off Hinds,4 off Kentish and 1 off Parry.
Cadet has 2 half centuries in first class cricket, one against T&T and the other against Jamaica and his first class batting average is either 15 or 16.
Hendriks,Findlay and David Murray are 3 of the best WI wicketkeepers in the last 60 years.
Horton Dolphin. Just walked away from cricket.. Ask Lloyd about him..
Went to UWI.. walked away from cricket and then a real sad episode personally ..
A great guy
Cadette didnt move me as a batsman. But then the couple of times I remember watching him at Kensington Marshall was making him look particularly uncomfortable but then again Marshall did that to many batsmen in that era
Cadette was a good player.. his smoking habit destroyed him
Enoch Lewis
In reply to birdseye
Neita went to Woolmers Boys
In reply to Raggs
Mark Neita was very good at the U19 level
I thought he and his captain would have gone on to wear WI colors .
His captain ( his name is eluding me) went on to play County cricket while studying in England .
I think Mark is a lawyer .
Sam Morgan
Bruce Wellington
Teddy Griffiths
Cleveland Davidson
In reply to CWWeekes
was looking through to see if he was included, was top class until his arm broke.
In reply to Massy
