What is your favorite bun?
I don't really fool around this but the Miss Birdie bun sell off.

Thinking this is a tradition that can be dropped by older folk, white flour and extremely processed cheese can't be good

Come on, Curtis, eat up some bun and cheese. It's just a once a year thing.

Ok, I'll admit that I get my share every year. This goes back to the year while living in Kingston and found myself with no money, so I had to spend my Easter Bun-less. The following year I was in a little better position financially, so I went to the Hannah Town Bakery outlet on Hagly Park Road and got myself the biggest bun available. Did I mention that I consumed it all by myself?

Unless you are a practicing Christian or Church-goer
You'll never know it is Easter here in NorCal.
Reminds me of a story of a Yardie working at Guantanamo
who asked his boss for time off to go home for Easter.
Come time Yardie saw his name on the schedule and went to
the Commander who had forgotten the request. Man asked, What
did you need time-off for? 'Easta Sah' 'What the hell is that?'
'Yuh kno' when dem crucify Jeesas Sah?' 'You're asking for time
off for a man who was killed and he isn't even from my country???'

Lots of good Easter stories around. I like yours.

I'm one of those who will attend church only Christmas and Easter, and only if they're having presentation of the Birth, and the Crucifixion (they remind me of when I was growing up and would participate). Because of COVID there has been no presentation for the past couple of years.

Lighten up likkle bit. I'm likely older than all 3 of you and I still eat bun-and-cheese (even when it's not Easter). That's because I'm socialised to it; I'm Yardie after all. What I don't do is consume it in excess. What, once every week or fortnight? A bit more now for the Easter period here, but nothing to affect my health.

Talking about our beloved "Tastee Pasteurised, Processed Cheese Spread" lol, I often wonder how the original New Zealand Cheddar issued to us in primary school got to this as local replacement. The taste is similar though, so I guess that's enough. Some years ago I met a former management employee of the company and she told me stories of some of the ways they cheapened the manufacturing process, including the amount of Irish potatoes that goes into it.

Still, guess what, it was a medium-sized can of it that I just went to my fridge to read off the name I quoted above. lol lol

I enjoyed bun n cheese here in TO, can't lie. It's the blessing of living in foreign where Caribbean people can experience more of each island/country culture. Appreciate that very much.

I have adopted, seamlessly, ackee n saltfish, jerk, patties, just from the Yardie repertoire alone. I consider those MY foods now.

Bun n cheese lil too rich for me these days though, will not seek it out, but will destroy it if it shows up

lol lol lol

I hear you, man. I went to T&T as a Cadet in h.s and got acclimated with their "roti wid goat curry", and it was to be a staple of mine while living in Florida (with chicken curry too). That's why now whenever I land at FLL I make a bee-line for Joy's in Lauderhill. I've told the story here before that when I had sole custody of my last 2 boys and was living in the area, the late Mr Joy would run a special: buy 5 doubles and get a 6th free. So "One roti wid goat deh, no peppa, and six doubles". That was enough for dinner for the 2 little boys and me.

So I get you on the point of adopting.

GT and T&T both reverse it like that, DV. big grin  But I did GT too, a couple years ago and if it were available to me I would have adopted dhalpuri and fish (with mango sour) from Rasta City. Even to this Yardie that was 'bununus' good. wink

I used to host a Cricket seminar for my students and the kids from the Primary Schools near campus - Mona and August Town.- we would give away bun and cheese at the seminar. Was lots of fun. It was held on the Thursday before the Easter break.

One year I had some staffers slice up the bun and cheese -- dem tief all di cheese - seriously. After dat I prepared it at home and kept it in my office until serving time. lol lol lol

On that score are Jamaicans and 'Filipinoes' the only ones
who eat avocado with pastry? (For Yardies it is Bulla-cake, toe-to, bun0

One Saturday I bought a pear (avocado) for topence (two pence), and a penny bulla-cake. Ate them all in a single sitting.

Well, that was the last time I had anything to do with pear (avocado).
