Bish just asked if Shimron Hetmyer is being stereotyped. I was about ask the same in the context of West Indian cricketers. Hard to understand justification for batting Hetmyer for 2 0r 3 overs at no.6 or 7. I get why that might be an appropriate use for Russell or Pollard, even Powell. But Hetymyer is a quality batter who can score as fluently against spin as pace. You can say its the role he has to play in the RR team set up but I worry that it will further limit his game when we want him to to one day be playing redball international cricket

Bish beat me to it
In reply to Logic
I hinted at that recently, and 2 Trinis took me to task!
IPL is all about the Indian players.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Honestly the whole thing has a racial tinge to it. They keep talking about Hetty being this "powerful" "strong" hitter. But there are few shots that Hetymer hits overs the boundary that don't combine timing and a full bat swing. He is not going to be able to short arm pull a six out the ground like say a Rovman Powell. Yet somehow they look at this small framed guy that got more fat than muscle on him and talk about him like he's another Andre Russell. His brain farts aside, he has more in common in his batting side with KL Rahul than will a Russell or Pollard. He is a proper batsman. I just hope he remembers that.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
You made a blanket statement about West Indian top order batsmen (plural)
Hetmeyer has a role in the RR team
Just like Sarwan did when he played for WI in the World Cup in South Africa.
He too was a proper batsman.
RR has found a role for Hetmeyer where he has been successful to date
Previously, Hetys other IPL team tried him higher in the order and his returns were less successful.
Instead of West Indians being happy that hes performing in a role where he is successful, they have to invent bullshit to fuck up his success.
Typical.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
You were being too sensitive
Look it has been said many times, this business of the IPL is not to develop WI cricket
This is no surprise to these guys with the contracts
They know their role from the start
There are slower batsmen that are Indians
They cannot certainly bat AFTER Hetty!!!

I am tempted to call you a bad word, but i didn't call any Trini by name. You have completely missed the point. Nobody is criticising Hetmeyer. It is the Franchise we are criticizing. Yes we know it is their money and they can call the shots, but we are concerned about what it does to our batsmen. I remember the first time I saw Pollard at North Stars in Barbados, I dubbed him the right-handed Gayle. However, that Pollard has completely been transformed into a vooper. I know you'll say he made millions. Yes and so will Hetmeyer, but the west indies might lose another batsman...Das all
In reply to Logic
The Ipl is NOT a West Indies development league, so stop thinking West Indies.
Hetty and all foreign players have roles within the teams.
In reply to Halliwell
Did not see your post, but it is spot on.
All imports have their role within a team, they are aware of it from day one.
In reply to openning
And THEY choose that role and road!!!
Who are Fuzzy and Logic blaming for WI potentially losing a batsman? The batsman himself and his family?!?
In reply to Halliwell
No dummy we are not blaming the cricketers. Why is that so hard to understand?
In reply to openning
Hetty and all foreign players have roles within the teams.
Not disputing any of that, in fact i acknowledged his role in RR team. I am just concurring with Ian Bishop's comments about Hetymer being stereotyped. My observation is not just based on his batting position, it is based on the references made by several of the commentators about Hetymer's strength and power. Someone even suggested he was powerfully built. That is at variance with reality and I would suggest a form of stereotyping
In reply to Halliwell
Being silly. I am not blaming anyone. I am making a broader point about how stereotyping people can diminish their potential. Why don't you take it up with Ian Bishop who was making a similar point.
You people are just too shallow to ask the question whether IPL preferential only to Indian cricketers. If we had a Kane Williamson style batsman would he get into an IPL team? Evan Lewis cant even get a look in for Lucknow but an average slugger like Stoinis can bat as high as no.5 in the team.
What has Jonny Bairstow ever done to light up the IPL, yet were are ready to accept Hetymer being converted into a last overs slogger
In reply to Logic
Bish has been around the IPL for years, he is able to voice opinion on all teams.
What about the other foreign players?
In reply to openning
And I am agreeing with Bish, so what's your point?
I can only assume you did not see or absorb the rest of my preceding post
In reply to Logic
The bold is by a West Indies fan, not an IPL team fan, there is a difference.
The reason Bish asked if Shimron Hetmyer is being stereotyped, he knows the teams and players, he is smart enough not to have a West Indies focus, when speaking of teams
In reply to Logic
You seem to know about the franchises and the history of players on each team.
In reply to openning
Agreed. Otherwise Bish would be out of a job. Bish is smart enough to make his point without stinking up the well. I am spelling it out for those too shallow to get his point.
In reply to imusic
Are you comparing using a proper batsman as a 50 over match finisher
with the role given a proper batsman as a 20 over match finisher?
In reply to Logic
Hetty has proven to be not good when given the opportunity to bat higher and plan an innings Royals have the right role for him he does not have to think much our guys don't do well in that department if he does not play in the current role then he can't make the team
Gentlemen.
The Royals lost today. Why they had 2 nonentities bat before Hetmyer?
I can only surmise that they are trying to get batting practice for 2 batsmen so when the playoffs roll around they are not totally dependent on Buttler,Hetty and Samson.
One of the guys got a 50 the other day.Now that they have experimented and dropped to 3rd position they now have to ensure that regular order is restored to ensure they actually make the playoffs so I think their experimentation is at an end.
Whilst developing WI players is not their priority, losing is not on the cards either so they will now allow Hetty to face more balls now so they can win.
Incidentally the way I monitor a batsman in T 20 cricket is not just average and/or strike rate but IMPACT.He has impacted positively his team in 7 out of 10 matches which is arguably better than most of the players in the IPL.He has had 2 bad matches. When he was dismissed for 3 and the undefeated 6 in 14 balls. The other match he faced a single ball, turned over the strike to the set batsman who hit 10 runs of the last 2 balls.
In reply to Dukes
The Royals did not play their best XI today neither did they get their batting order right. Jimmy Neeshan should be given another chance in place of Karun Nair. that way he can play the role of a finisher and they can bat Hetty at 4. Buttler, Padikkal, Samson, Hetty, Neesham, Parag is a better line up than what they had today. Plus Neesham offers a 6th bowling option.
Hetty should have definitely come in today ahead of Parag.
On another note: Did anyone pick up on Sanju Samson trying to sheepishly blame the defeat on Hetmyer? His comment to Bishop was that if they could have got a few more boundaries, (not sure if he said two) at the end, maybe that would have got them over the line.
Either Bishop picked up on it or purely by coincidence, asked Samson about his batting in the middle overs when he had difficulty getting the all away.
I mean, I already respect Mr. Bishop but that was thinking on his feet on different level.
If Hety had batted earlier Rajastan would have won
*sigh
So much reactive emotional name calling
Pity we cant discuss something without resorting to the lowest common behaviours
And we expect better from society
If the IPL wants to stereotype Hetty for 8 weeks, then the CWI entity has a choice either to accept or reject that stereotype. So does Hetty. So do his fans.
I didnt hear it LIVE, but I wished I understood from all the noise here, which audience Bish was worried about with the stereotyping comment.
This is not exactly rocket science
Hetty is doing just fine at the death. This is the first franchise that has actually figured out how to get the bang for their buck$ ....
