New West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran received high praise from his former franchise manager and national manager upon his big appointment.

Pooran, 26, was named captain of the West Indies T20 and ODI teams on Tuesday and will have a big task ahead in preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup in October and the ICC Cricket World Cup next year.

In an interview with Newsday, former West Indies and TT manager Omar Khan said, “He has been moulded as a future West Indies captain when he was appointed vice-captain of the team. He strongly led Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL last year and was very instrumental in the performances of the team. Nicholas is a natural leader and has the passion and power to do well”.

Pride really goes before a fall. They should all swallow up their pride and reinstate Jason Holder as captain of both formats. Pooran might be a natural leader but timing is not good.

In my experience "Natural born leaders" are people who have been leading from childhood. These people are multitalented and automatically gravitate to leadership positions in almost everything they do.Many of you can remember the kid in school who was captain of the cricket, football and table-tennis team who was very bright academically and also ran track and had the best looking girl at school.He/She was also in the debating club and the chess club and as an adult continued to be a leader.

Are leaders born or made?

Why do you think it is binary.
Some are born and some are made.

In the case of Czar Nicholas (the Great), he was made a leader the moment he was named.

i dont buy into the whole "natural born leader" thing

just say you want to be in power, its more honest

Nicholas Pooran has been Pollard’s assistant in the recent past. He doesn’t have the experience of Pollard; yet the number of matters the captain has to deal with before, during and after a game can be quite a lot of hassle. Is Pooran up to it? The proof of the pudding is always in the eating! He has gained loads of experience under Pollard and he has to know how to deal with the issues. Being a vice-captain is certainly not the same as being captain. It’s a lot more involved. It is good sense for the head coach to ensure that there are several discussions on cricket intelligence with his squads in the lead-up to competition.

The headlines are not accurate.
Omar said natural leader...headlines say natural BORN leader.
A man may not show any leadership qualities but when given the chance may then show these qualities....doesn't mean he is a born leader but may have developed the skills as he became more experienced in his field.

BTW I donot see these qualities in Pooran....not yet.
His stint as cappo of Amazon Warriors was a disaster....he looked lost most of the time...with many players including Hafeez, Shoaib Malick and even Hety making decisions on the field.....at times conflicting with Pooran's
He was much better when he cappoed the WI team.
