Pooran struggling as of late... the returns in these 3 innings as captain is just piss poor ...
Because of his not having to fight for selection .. his returns would be dismal ..
But hey what the heck I know !!!!
I am not advocating anyone for captaincy ... I just feel Pooran should not had been saddled with this right now and the same goes for Hetty as well ..

Good God man form is temporary. Give the man a break nuh

CITYBOY 2022-06-04 22:38:36

In reply to Brerzerk

Irrelevant. I don’t have to give Pooran a break. I merely said the captaincy will PROVE to be an Albatross.. and because his place is secure he will not improve..
Temporary my foot ... his returns are not that good .... a batsman best innings is the one he is about to play .. not previous... think about that ..’

I want to engage you seriously here.

There are several things that Pooran has to learn really fast

TEAM Dynamics

Zero out Friendism

Forget which FLAG he from

Managing expectations of the COACH and Head Office
Managing expectations of FANS.

WINNING!!

CONTRIBUTING WITH THE BAT!

guess what...

IF Pooran contributes with the BAT ....most of the other things will fall into place.
IF he is WINNING MATCHES...ALL of the above will fall into LINE.

You are not wrong...but he now officially starting out an he has to adjust FAST.

Sir I concur ... except “If we winning matches”...
I will add “.. if we winning matches and Pooran in our no 4 slot is making a significant contribution””
Pooran game at this very moment is way below where it should be...
The question .. Has he peaked and is on a downward trajectory??
Most commies big up his talent and what he is capable of doing.. except the commies don’t make the runs.. it’s
up to Pooran ...
he cannot struggle with the bat and lead.. he is hit and miss right now ..
He needs to reinvent and focus. Captaincy will not solve his downward trend
As I said .. neither Pooran nor Hetty ready for captaincy... they do not need the added burden .

Windiesfan78 2022-06-05 02:39:04

I said it before and I will say it again. This lick it cricket will make one rich but it will not improve one's batting. Pooran will only improve if he starts to play FC cricket. Mayers, King, Hope and Brooks all did well and I believe the return of regional cricket helped them tremendously. Are these players more talented than Pooran? The answer is no. Is Pooran a poor captain? I don't think he is. However, he needs to get it together with his batting. If he gives the FC format a try he will see the improvements I am sure. Check the best batters in the world. They can play across the 3 formats.

neither Pooran nor Hetty ready for captaincy.

This is true...

I felt that he needed more time too...but the hand has been dealt.

I also agree...if the team is winning and he is failing with the bat...then his confidence will be shot.

I do not like the inconsistency but I am giving him grace to sort it out fast.

He seriously does not get a Honeymoon here.

Where is Rudy Webster or whoever in all of this?

That would be the LOGICAL and PROPER thing to do.

Lets see if he takes up that always on the table offer.

I fear his development will be stunted if he ignores this sage advice.

Look at K Brathwaite ...Chase..rebuilding..and sharpening..

I wish the same for him and Hety.

I now see the problem...reasoning!
You chose what you want to see and address only that, or; cannot reason 'The Whole'
The subject of my sentence is Form is Temporary yet you responded to
it with zero reasoning. Every batsman goes through a lean spell
but it forms absolutely no part of your argument. a one series 3 match failure
with the bat 1st out as captain is proof of not having to work for his spot makes him feel secure-Intellectual laziness.

CITYBOY 2022-06-05 12:03:54

In reply to Brerzerk

Don’t bring intellectual thought process to me... I recognize I am INCAPABLE to be that way ...
However common sense and experience will trump intellectual reasoning..””IS THE MOON ROUND “etc etc
Bottom line is Pooran lack of production appears not to be TEMPORARY....but hey I am not intellectually attuned to recognize that!!!

It's true bro. This is why CWI would like to see him play in the longer format. There is nothing wrong with t20 cricket, it is great entertainment. However, if that has become his main format he will be a one-dimensional player. I fear the same for Hetmyer. Look at Rutherford and Evin Lewis, sitting on the bench in the IPL. Lewis has so much potential and can reach it if he would play in the longer formats. Money talks at the end of the day. If a man is comfortable earning money hitting 3 or 4 sixes and getting out, it is his choice. However, if these players are going to reach their true potential, they need to make themselves available for our team tours.

The other yute with captaincy experience at a high level is Hetty.

He actually won championship as under 19 WI captain.

Why wasn't he groomed for senior captaincy role?

Well said. A sprinter runs more than 100 metres at a time in training. A 400 metre runner cannot train as a 100 metre sprinter and expect to compete. Batsmen therefore cannot be only playing T20 cricket and hope to compete at ODI or test level.

Dukes 2022-06-05 18:15:03

I await with keen interest the 3 Pakistan ODI's when we will see how Hope,Pooran and King do against top class opposition.

Voops, you hit the nail on the head. It is sad but true. Sorry to say but the preference for many of our players to put the IPL before playing for the West Indies has led to the poor batting displays when it comes to ODIs.

Voops is right...

its challenging to fight against the power of the dollar when a mans career can be cut short for several reasons.

That being said...I honestly believe that they ought to do the basics well- FIRST. but WE will be spitting in the wind against the baskets full of money and the seduction of the crowds and endorsements.

I digress.

I too fear that Pooran is undercooked in his batting and wicket keeping development.
( Ramdin was better prepared in my opinion in both areas)
But im not sure I am being fair here to Pooran...

I dont know who has his ear...but honestly if he patterns himself after Pollards career...then I cannot honestly invest in him for solid returns.

He has to want to take care of his personal development...

I will await the Pakistan tour too @Dukes.

Notes being taken.

CITYBOY 2022-06-10 22:10:54

The proof is in the pudding. ... 5 innings and 70 odd runs..
Let me repeat .... 5 innings .. players sometimes are only given 1 inning and then they are banished ..
Pooran is not doing himself any favor by being captain and the CWI think tanks should be ashamed to give a ‘STRUGGLING BATSNAN “ that responsibility ..
Pooran and Hetty ( even though he is not playing) needs to try and get back their mojo ...
Even Stevie Wonder can see this..

The sad thing about it is that most of our players don't show consistency. Some players show so much promise and then it just seems to fall off a cliff. Chrissy posted a clip of a mature gentleman who is a West Indies fan. The interview took place in our recent tour of the Netherlands. If you listen to him you would see he knows his cricket. He made some very interesting points. One was that since Lara, he has not seen another West Indian batsman that comes close. Lara was a batting genius so that is expected. He also stated that Pooran and Hetmyer are talented. He then pointed to his head when he spoke about them.
The truth is that a lot of our players don't think when it comes to shot selection. It also makes me wonder what the batting coach is doing in terms of teaching the guys to play with soft hands.

CITYBOY 2022-06-12 20:40:32

In reply to Windiesfan78

Maybe it’s the coaches that mess with the guys ... getting to the big stage takes some doing ... but once they get there these piss poor coaches put them in a descending mode...

Windiesfan78 2022-06-12 21:33:52

In reply to CITYBOY

For starters, why is Monty still the batting coach for the West Indies? It baffles me how players after all this time are struggling to put the ball in the gaps to run the singles and twos. The majority of our batters are always hitting the ball straight to fielders. They lack the foot movement, can't often get to the pitch of the ball and think that the way to get out of not rotating the strike is to hit over the top. There are too many aerial shots and not enough safe field piercing ones. Is it that the players aren't following his methods or is it a simple fact that he is not improving the team? This is the big question.

CITYBOY 2022-06-12 23:26:16

In reply to Windiesfan78

I will put the blame on the coaches...any player making it to the senior team obviously can bat...
Coaches are there not to change that batsman but to impart some knowledge in order to correct flaws ... if evident
These modern day coaches want to reinvent the batsman game and thus it spells trouble ..
They should work on the batsmen weakness ... but what the heck ...

Windiesfan78 2022-06-13 00:31:17

In reply to CITYBOY

You would figure that is what should happen. Look at Bangladesh, this is a team that hasn't been playing cricket for as long as the W.I but has improved tremendously over the years. This team went to New Zealand and beat them in the first test. We can't even beat Bangladesh in a ODI series. It is time to get serious if this team is to move forward. I would start with our batting coach.
