I looked at the regional completion and none of the bowlers seemed to be fast. Not even fast medium. More like medium and medium fast.
Most of the guys have the built for fast bowling. I have time for Kemo as he has the potential to be a very good allrounder.
But even guys like Louis who is the leading wicket taker is innocuous as hell. The two new debutants were no difference.
Look at how India is producing really fast bowlers.
I think a combination of poor work ethics, lack of professionalism and a lackadaisical attitude towards cricket is at the root of the issue.

Why are our bowlers sooo slow!!!
In reply to Jammal22
A certain poster used to liken our much vaunted pace attack to brutes. Our young bowlers 'tek dat to heart' and have overcompensated.
So, who are the brutes now?
In reply to Drapsey
Maybe its a good thing this over-compensation
If Kemar is the mentor and Bravo has also been around the guys, theyll go for smarts and planning rather than faster and foolish
The only 2 West Indian bowlers who have hit 140 kph this year that I know of are Alzharry Joseph 151 and Odean Smith 143kph.
Seales,Roach et al are all in the 130's
In reply to Jammal22
For the same reason we dont have wrist spinners. Too much hard work. So we settle for: orthodox left arm slow and medium pace swing
poor pitches who wants to bowl 140 on flat dusty pitches with no assistance you take india which has not always a tradition of producing quick fast bowlers arguably their best fast bowler kapil dev was not express .india only started producing quick bowlers when they changed their pitches and putting grass on them

I would suggest that India started producing fast bowlers AFTER Denis Lillee (along with a plethora of other former Australian fast bowlers) started holding fast bowling camps all over India.
In reply to Dukes
i have thought about that
and i wonder whether it was a perfect or almost perfect alignment
just when india was looking for and encouraging fast bowlers they hired Lilee thus giving impetus to that drive. the result can be seen now
no team has ruled test cricket without a cadre of fast bowlers.
from your efforts, in this regard, (and i compliment you there), i expect Guyana will produce some quality fast bowlers anon

A single 3 day camp has produced a National fast bowler for the Mens team and 2 female Under 19 National fast bowlers and possibly 2 National Male Under 15 fast bowlers(team yet to be announced).
Obviously there needs to be follow up and continuity but the signs are there for similar projects bearing fruit around the region.
CWI should engage Individuals and organizations to collaborate on these projects. Sadly they have no vision or innovativeness so nothing will be done.

That's sad....
Where is Chemar holder, O Smith...These are two guys that could bowl 90 mph
What about Keon Harding... I remember in an interview Devon Smith saying that Keon was the only bowler in the region with serious pace. Keon never really progressed...
They need some assistance from pitches, which they rarely get around the Caribbean.
There also seems to be a lot of.pace bowlers spending time developing their batting, which is welcome, but they are there to take wickets and unsettle the opposition.
In reply to Drapsey
The only brutish fast bowler around is O. Thomas and they put him out to pasture! Once these guys get dem rims as in BMW and chain, effort ceases!
In reply to XDFIX
As Bill Clinton so presciently said
It depends on what your definition of is is!!!!!!

My Grandad used to say 'Oh Kaka-hole' But Fiery Boycott pronounces it 'Surry-ass' er sorry.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

O Thomas was doomed the minute he was blooded as a T20 bowler. Mentally broken by being spanked all over the place by sluggers before he had the chance to properly develop SKILLS and build STAMINA. He should have been groomed in the mold of a Shannon Gabriel( who in my opinion is less naturally talented). Too many happy meal made fast bowlers
In reply to mikelegend
These guys should be playing for their regional teams...
It seems that they are mentally weak and afraid of hard work
With WI cricket millions such as Russel, Bravo, Samuels, Gayle, Hetty, Sammy etc. you would think these guys would get the memo that cricket is a lucrative sport.
In reply to mikelegend
Wasn't it in WHITE BALL cricket that he scared the hell out of Shikar Dhawan?
All he had to do is consistently bowl those types of delivery interspersed with a
few well directed short ones.
In reply to Jammal22
I wonder what is his current training regimen.
In reply to Brerzerk
Those fleeting moments in quick hit games do not develop proper fast bowlers.
In reply to Jammal22
Re Keon Harding....seems to me the long hiatus from cricket due to Covid, a lot of our pacers didnt practice and lose considerable pace.
In reply to XDFIX
Oshane Thomas aint even close to being ready.
nuff said.
In reply to Jammal22
It seems you are not up to speed in terms of what India is doing to improve their pace bowlers. Calling our cricketers mentally weak is not a solution.
What has been said above on this thread about Dennis Lillee and the Australians is only a small part of what is being done. They are presently ahead of the Aussies and the results are obvious.
They are starting clinics for pre-teens. They have developed training camps SPECIFICALLY for pace bowling. They have developed specific drills to teach specific skills.
All of this is being supported, recorded and analysed by technology to see when and how the benchmarks are being achieved.
