Aljo- This version of Aljo is the BEST I have seen him bowl in international cricket. He bowled CONSISTENTLY at REAL PACE, and decent CONTROL. He actually looked bigger, fitter and stronger. Finally a genuine pace bowler outside of Gabriel.
Hossein- Consistent and competitive. We have a spinner
finally(I like Chase as well). His batting especially against the spinners was refreshing. He can only get better.
Seales- Maintains good control and is a thinking bowler. I saw Yorkers being attempted at the tail today. He bowled reasonably well at the death. Needs to strengthen up to get that pace CONSISTENTLY above 140 to be able to trouble good batsmen. Still a work in progress.
Phillips- He is green and is taking some stick. However, I see EFFORT. Im happy he is not a T20 bowler, he could be a solid workhorse in the future(reminds me a bit of Peter Siddle)
Paul- Hes on the way back. Glad to see him getting some reps in today. Continue to work on fitness and skills, definitely an asset to the team. The FC season really did him good. Happy for the young man.
Shepherd- Hope hell realize that sitting on the bench in IPL and bowling the occasional 4 overs are not going to help his cause. I think that he has tremendous potential with the bat. However, Ive seen no improvement on his run up to improve his momentum through the popping crease. He needs a FC season and a stint with Malinga.
Walsh Jr- NEEDS TO BE MORE CONSISTENT. He bowls too many loose deliveries for a spinner. I know leg spin is hard, but hes supposed to be a professional.
Lewis- I need to see more of him against tougher opposition.
JHO- Hopefully will be well rested and returns PHYSICALLY stronger with a nice STRAIGHT FRONT LEG AT THE POINT OF DELIVERY. He has ample time to work on it during his time off. Would be great to see him with that improvement with this version of Aljo, Hossein, Seales and possibly Paul.
McCoy and Smith- Seems like theyve been pigeoned holed for T20

How about Pooran?
In reply to Windiesfan78
An anomaly but refreshing . If he could actually springboard from this, it would be a HUGE asset.
In reply to mikelegend
You're telling me, it is basically like what Brathwaite did in Sri Lanka.
In reply to Windiesfan78
might very well be. once the surprise element has gone, that is it! But it is still good that he may be used for other bowlers to change ends or when poor Shep is getting plenty stick etc.

I believe your assessment is fair.
If he did not do it when he was a youngster what makes you imagine he will do it now?
I did not like what I saw with Shephard, Lewis, Walsh Jr and Lewis in Netherlands and Pakistan.
My ODI Bowling line up will have
1) Alzhari Joseph
2) Seales
3) Akeil Hossein
2 more places up for grab. Meyers can fill in for any shortfall.
I feel we still should have Kemp Paul (He looks a lot better than Shephard and Odean Smith with the ball) and Fabien Allen around the team.

You cannot score 2-50's and a ton in any series and look solely on the bowlers.
Have a look at the series stats.

It is amazing to me that you guys keep omitting the name OBED McCoy.
None of the bowlers are in his class when he is healthy, ashe is NOW.
He is the BEST DEATH BOWLER we have.
In reply to openning
Well
start a thread on the batsmen.
In reply to VINCYPOWA
I actually like Obed McCoy. I stated that it seems he is pigeon holed for T20. However, here are a few questions for you.
- What were his most recent FC statistics?
- What did he do after becoming healthy?
- On what basis do you consider him a superior death bowler IN ODI than ALL of the bowlers in WI?
- On what basis is his body of work a CLASS ABOVE all WI bowlers?

Looked at the stats ... and then wished I didnt

Paul and Shepherd tries too many variations IMO. Thats is fine for T20s, but in ODIs, I think they ought to stick to the basic line and length like Starc and Hazelwood.
In reply to StumpCam
That can only happen if and when they develop the muscle memory and confidence in that format of the game. However it is also good that they have those tools in their kitbag.
In reply to mikelegend
What Im saying is they need to master the execution of the basics first, before experimenting with slower ball bouncers and the like!
In reply to StumpCam
I am in agreement, hence I stated they needed to develop the muscle memory for that format of the game. This can only be done by repetition, which they cannot get playing too much T20 and no FC cricket.

Why would anyone that been following West Indies cricket for decades, start a useless thread.
It is our structure, until every Island create a cricket structure, our cricket will not move forward.

So why ask me to look at batting stats??? Everyone who is SERIOUSLY following WI cricket knows exactly what the issues are. Right now we have a captain whose ODI batting stats display that he has ONE century in a losing cause in 40 innings. He barely, if ever plays FC cricket to tighten his skillset
but he is the captain
the one leading by example. He was out THREE times in a row to a NOVICE spinner from the Netherlands. Hetmeyer, our former u19 winning captain, has now been regulated to a pinch hitter for an IPL T20 franchise team. These two were supposed to be WORLD BEATERS at this stage of their careers.
In reply to mikelegend
Pooran is not our problem, we have been losing before he became captain.
You forget the last WC performance?
I am Barbadian, the BCA has not produced a great International batsman since Dessie, should I blame CWI for that?
In reply to openning
Darren Sammy was one of the better tactical leaders that we have had in the Wi. He was less talented than Pooran and was lambasted by all corners because of his inability to lead from the front with either bat or ball. Pooran needs to significantly improve if he intends to inspire, gain trust, confidence and respect of his team. He is not THE problem, but his current performances are definitely a LARGE part of the problem, particularly because he is the captain. I was happy about his surprise exploits with the ball. However, if he had closed out with a fighting half century, it would have been a good building block for his captaincy.
In reply to mikelegend
A number of years ago I asked why is the captain role in cricket, remain the same, when other team sports captain is so much different.
I blame the Head coach and his team for on-field problems, we the fans get to see it in real time.
Phil and his team maybe the only coaches who see technology as a nuisance.
In reply to openning
I have no idea of the preparation Phil and his coaching staff conduct to get the team ready. From all appearances they seem very relaxed and uninspired regardless of the state of the game. I may be wrong
but I highly doubt it!
In reply to VINCYPOWA
He surely is a good death bowlers but I am not sure if he is good to bowl 10 overs. He should be in the mix and be closely watched during the next Regional 50 Over tourney or should be part of a A team match / tour to see how he does.
