How good is Mayers the bowler
In reply to brians_da_best
He is very similar to John Shepherd of Kent, Barbados and West Indies of many moons ago.

Shep was very economical, opened both batting and bowling for my local team in Bim

WHAT!!!!
Yuh deh bout long bro!!!!!!
I am looking forward to seeing Mayers bowl outside the WI. He did not look very threatening in Holland with the white ball but maybe he will be very useful with the red ball on tour

Killer Kyle is a lucky bowler

I disagree.he gets prodigious swing and also moves the ball off the seam.He also bowls leg breaks, back of the hand slower balls and is a very dangerous bowler. It is not just luck.

Genuine all-rounder for me.
The lad can bat, he can bowl and he is a good catcher the problem he is now coming to grips with is that its hard enough at this level being a specialist in one discipline let alone being expected to contribute with BOTH bat and ball. Only the very best usually survive. He has to put in the work or one or both aspects of his game will suffer .all rounder is no joke.

you played with Lance n Glendon.
We need somebody like Odean Smith to clean up this Bdesh tail now,Joseph needs that kind of company.Ebadot has a HS in tests of 4 in 15 test.

Yep I remember a teenage Lance Gibbs coming to DCC with a fidgety 6 year old named Clive.I said to Berkley, this boy has very long fingers, maybe he can be a spin bowler!!!!!!

He has skill and tricks. His major trick seems to be to bowl some big inswingers. Then to go wide of the crease, slant the ball in and get it to straighten while the batsman is fooled into thinking it was another inswinger. Actually he is a copy of Roachie but inswings more.
I think if he could get himself back up to 135Km/hr and still get the ball to move around, he would be world class.

You cannot call a bowler that gets most of his wickets bowled, LBW or caught behind the wicket a lucky bowler. Mayers actually takes wickets. He is not gifted wickets.

In this test I was really fascinated by the skills shown by the bowler Mayers....seam upright... outswing & inswing ... scrambled seam delivery, slow off cutter in the 1st inning....he can develop from here very well... could be handful in England & New Zealand & South Africa....his forte ...red Duke ball...seaming conditions..he has to work hard to be successful in sub continent.... waiting to see, how he performs in upcoming South Africa series....at this juncture of his career , I rate him to be better bowler, than batter... always scope for further improvement....in the mould of Vernon Philander...

Mayers is better than a lucky or "happy knack" bowler. He gets wickets with skill and wit.
For WI sake hope the consistency continues. Is batting does to improve in tests

How else do you get wickets pray tell?
Any bowler who can bowl swing at medium pace generally gives batsmen fits!
Very useful bowler!
In reply to sudden
Not giftred, by going for lofted shots and caught at midwicket or mifoff.

Is this a serious question?

A bowler takes wickets by bowling a batsman, trapping him lbw, or having him caught mainly. Ever so often a batsman hits wicket, or is run out which is not credited to the bowler
In reply to sudden
I said caught behind the wicket. Not caught generally. There is a big difference in bowling potential when you can have a batsman nicking off to the keeper or the slips than when a batsman gets caught on the boundary etc. Most of Mayer's wickets have been out bowled, LBW or caught behind the wicket. That was my comment.

Ok got yuh now. He is still a lucky bowler

Dwl. Ok boss man. Give Mayers his credit man. Look at the type of form Joe Root has been in this year and in the 3rd test against England Mayers had Root nicking off behind the wicket in both innings.
What I'm surprise about, that no English counties have try to sign him. I think he will be very useful in their condition.
