ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today announced the match schedule for the West Indies Men’s “A” Team series against Bangladesh Men’s “A” Team in August. The series will be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia and will feature two four-day first-class matches and three 50-over matches from 4 to 20 August. 

This will be the first West Indies Men’s “A” Team series since 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic restricted opportunities and the resumption of West Indies Men’s “A” team matches sees the return of a key development opportunity for players pushing for selection to the West Indies senior team and for emerging players to build their First-Class International experience. 

Roland Holder, CWI’s Senior Operations Manager said the series will provide exposure for a number of players and noted it was part of CWI’s commitment to continually developing talent for the international level. He said:  “We are pleased to have confirmed the itinerary for the Men’s ‘A’ Team series with the BCB and we are excited to host Bangladesh in the region again. This is a vital part of the development of our players in the pathway toward full international selection, and no doubt this upcoming series of matches in Saint Lucia will provide a platform for further exposure and progress.”

Good teams you picked.

I still think that Keemo is a better red ball bowler than white ball. I would switch him and Anderson Phillip in your squads. Wouldnt you also want to give Bravo and Hope and possibly Pooran and Hety if available a look in for the 4 day matches since we still need to firm up #3 and #4 in the test batting line up?

I considered Bravo thinking he’s too much of a talent to just be discarded and thinking maybe an A team stint might do him some good

But really…..he discarded himself. He hasn’t made runs and can’t complain about lack of opportunity. And who would drop for him? Not Carty. Not King. Not Shai Hope. There’s no room for 2 reclamation projects which is essentially what he and Shai Hope (in tests) are now.

For whatever reason, Pooran and Hety not in the conversation. I do have Shai Hope in the squad for the 4 day matches

I can see your logic that if we have a man who performs well regionally but not internationally and one who performs at neither level, we should go for the former in Hope. I would actually consider da Silva, Campbell and Blackwood for that series simply because all three need as much cricket as they can get since they are not playing in the ODI teams. Perhaps one match each so as to give others the needed exposure as well.

The 50 over matches are being played during the tours by India and New Zealand so it could be that King and a couple of others are playing odi's and t/20's.
