With just about seven months left remaining on Ricky Skerrit’s second two-year term as Cricket West Indies (CWI) president, this would be as good a time as any to assess his tenure. Extremely disappointing would arguably have to be the fairest possible verdict of any such assessment.

Skerritt’s initial March 2019 appointment to the presidency, as Dave Cameron’s replacement, had been greeted with widespread optimism throughout the Caribbean. The prevailing hope was that after six years of Cameron’s at times overly autocratic rule, Skerritt’s breath-of-fresh-air presidency would herald the implementation of policies, procedures and practices that would have resulted in better on-field performances by West Indies teams in all three of international cricket’s current formats.

As president, however, Skerritt’s major focus has instead seemingly been on restoring CWI’s finances from its previous perilous state of reported near bankruptcy into a now far more healthy state. For the outstanding successes he’s achieved in that endeavour he must now be overly applauded.

I see him with our (SKN) new Minister of Tourism at a meeting in Miami two days ago.
So I'm guessing he might be giving up the reins of WI cricket and trying to get back into politics/ advisory role.

When I read some comments I shake my head in disbelief....sigh

Anyone with a basic understanding of managing any entity will tell ....

One must have a financial footings on stable ground.

Failure would entail, putting out bushfires that appear, requiring efforts to put them out.

It takes valuable time to do such when any entity is without financial security.

It is obvious Management saw this as their number one priority.

Only then it can give much-needed funds to Stakeholders to develop the talents they have.

Ken Gordon achieved such and left the rest to the incompetent H&H regime to follow his plans.

My explanation is this:

For CWI to succeed it must have sound financial footing. It does not at the moment.
It will take years to turn this entity around.
Without such too many bushfires will appear ..lack of payments, lines of credit crunches, cash shortfalls, etc., etc.
Until such is established, expect ripples on the pond.

let me repeat - was the financial state of wi cricket better when Gordon came on the scene than it is now, was it similar, or was it worse?
