I saw it on Facebook from oledread and immediately thought of those deaths in the crash at the World Cup.

Chris’ dad Dennis Ziadie and Winthorpe “Jackie” Bell were two renowned ex football players and coaches in Jamaica…

In 1986 they traveled to Mexico to watch the 1986 World Cup…while on their way from the stadium after watching the Brazil v France quarter final match, the bus in which they were traveling overturned killing them both….the tragedy plunged the whole country of Jamaica into mourning

Young Chris and his brother Nick played on the St. George’s College Manning Cup team who were back to back champions in 1983 and 1984 (if my memory serves me right, I believe their dad Dennis was the coach). Georges lost the Olivier Shield to Cornwall College in 83 but rebounded to take the 84 title…that team was blessed with a lot of talented players…I remember Chris making his debut for the Reggae Boyz as a busy midfielder in the early 90s…could have been under Carl Brown

RIP. Remembered him as a good schoolboy footie.

Played against him and that Georges team in 83 and 84 , actually my Wolmers team beat them 1-0 at Sabina park in 84.
RIP, Chris was a very competitive player who played the game rough and gave as much as he got, we had manny battles going back to colts, minor league and manning cup.

Talking about Wolmers….Manchester High pulled off one of the biggest upsets in high school sports when we demolished Wolmers in the Jamaica National Chess Competition…

The Chester team comprised of yours truly, NCB’s Michael Lee-Chin’s brother Richard, Bobby Chantrelle(later of Tianamen Square fame) and a British expat of Yard heritage named Donald Finlayson…going into the match no one gave us a chance…..the Monday morning after the match we were given a ticker tape parade around the halls of Manchester…I remember winning my game in about 15 minutes to give Chester a 1-0 lead…my teammates saw what happened and the burst of adrenaline fueled a 4-0 clean sweep…to this date that remains my most memorable sporting accomplishment

After my match ended I remember getting a tour of the grounds by the Wolmers grounds custodian - an old Caucasian looking fellow….

Our mentor at the time was the late great Peter Maxwell ex Kingston College stalwart…..our coach was the great Carl Coke…..

Those were the days when our own Mike Siva was tearing up the place for JC….JC and Wolmers were the two leading Corporate area chess institutions

I think I may know Chris. I went to university in New York in the mid 1980s with 2 Zaidie brothers from Jamaica who played soccer/football. Sad news ...
