Solution to the woes of the West Indies!,

Windiesfan78 2022-10-07 18:04:11

1. Allow Big Phil to see out his tenure
2. Hire Sammy as Head Coach
3. Hire Curtly Ambrose as the bowling coach
4. Find a competent batting coach that will teach our minnows how to play spin and consistently rotate the strike
5. Give our emerging players a clearer pathway to the first team
6. Have our players stick to a strict diet and training routines to keep them fit
7. Provide incentives for players that continue to do well, e.g extra money for every wicket taken, half century or century scored. Extra money also for each match won
8. Get a sponsor that truly has an interest in West Indies cricket
9. Force our players to watch videos of the best players in the world and allow them to work on their weaknesses
10. Find a way to get fans back into stadiums by winning more for starters big grin

Kindly advise on the aforementioned. I look forward to your feedback.

6. Have our players stick to a strict diet and training routines to keep them fit

Education is key here.
I wonder if they teach nutrition in the schools
The education doesn't have to be complex.
The diet doesn't have to be 'strict'
Players must know what foods are good ( and why) and what to avoid and (why)....and portion size especially for food to avoid.

I am shocked at the number of people I know who do not have a clue about proper nutrition....and I am talking about many who are qualified professionals in their field

Absolutely

But they must understand why they are watching and what to digest and learn...and just watch and jump and cheer.

You don't think Shiv is a bonafide batting coach?

You don't think Shiv is a bonafide batting coach?

He doesn't like Shiv's batting stance and wouldn't want it forced onto his charges.

I absolutely believe he is. He better than most who have level 3 and level 4 certificates

Why this question?

Because the man got a solution for 2 and 3 but can't find one for 4 ...

1. Why? Hasn't he failed enough? He and his staff must go as soon as their torment ends.
2. Let us get a foreign coach for now. Our players respond better to white coaching than African .I am not bigoted nor racist just stating fact. WI best team ever their coach and most of the staff then was white. Ask Lloyd.
3.Yes agree but he will need help as we have both up and coming spinners and pacers.
4. Shiv is good choice along with Lara seeing we love left handers. Sarwan or Hooper as mentors for right handers. Not one batting nor bowling coach but a battery of coaches.
5. To achieve your point. The CWI need to invite international clubs to come here and train with our kids. That will expose them to different techniques and coaching. Also local companies need to get on board o sponsor a kid.

9. I watched a few videos of Viv 's stance at the crease and copied his style. It worked for me. So if the chosen ones want to be best of the best they need to do this on their own not have someone tell them like they are in std. 2
10. Schedule matches in countries that fans actually pay to come to see the sport. Not the ones where no one cares. Playing for ICC checks only is not beneficial to WI cricket except paid staff.

1. Allow Big Phil to see out his tenure
This is a common sense solution so you do not have to pay 2 salaries for Head Coach

2. Hire Sammy as Head Coach

Agree

3. Hire Curtly Ambrose as the bowling coach

Agree

4. Find a competent batting coach that will teach our minnows how to play spin and consistently rotate the strike

Carl Hooper
5. Give our emerging players a clearer pathway to the first team

Clearly that means A team tours

6. Have our players stick to a strict diet and training routines to keep them fit

CWI has provided them with highly qualified nutritionists but some of them completely ignore what they are told. One player likes his wifey's dhall and rice and another's girlfriend makes a sweet ox tail
7. Provide incentives for players that continue to do well, e.g extra money for every wicket taken, half century or century scored. Extra money also for each match won

That is a waste of time
8. Get a sponsor that truly has an interest in West Indies cricket

Ricky S just called me for your number and assured me he would put you on speed dial if he knew you could provide such a company.

9. Force our players to watch videos of the best players in the world and allow them to work on their weaknesses

Sophomoric idea but who knows
10. Find a way to get fans back into stadiums by winning more for starters

Once we are winning, the fans will be back.

I would not bother to talk about cricket administration which is a huge problem that seemingly lacks an easy solution.

Nice suggestions.
I would only add One thing at this point...Bring back Inter Island(Territory) play at
all levels.franchise cricket will NOT and IS NOT the way to develop our cricket.

There needs to be another competition to seal the cracks in the system as this would
give more incentive and involvement of the individual Boards to build the cricket in
their own territory and give the players more cricket at the high level.

CPL has its place but it is not the solution.
Additionally, your best coaches should be working with the age group levels.
That is, if one wants high standard at the outset, sound fundamentials and
good thinking in all players for sustainability of the product.

The solution is staring you in the face and you do not see it..
STOP SUPPORTING OR FOLLOWING WI CRICKET IS THE ANSWER ..’
You want solution and basically calling on the players who can’t hold a phucking bat to watch tapes??

Get real yeah !!!
The solution is simple... the finished product at the country level are the only ones that should advance to the top tier .... like in the gaddam good old days ..
People are getting to the top tier without the know how and are expected to improve through this so called WORLD BEATING COACHING STAFF..
Call it for what it is.. WI cricket is a joke .. and a bunch of jokers following it and getting excited and emotional blah blah blah
I suppose losers attract losers

lol, you soon get cussed. On a serious note, school children do get in free for some matches. The sad thing is that sometimes they make up a large portion of the people present. Now I have some suggestions to attract a crowd:
Hold charity cricket matches in Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and Jamaica to show an appreciation for some of our legends. Part of the proceeds can go towards the fight against breast cancer, poverty and other NCDs just to name a few. Why not hold a series of t10 and t20 matches. For example, Trinidad can have Brian's Birthday Bash. People will support a good cause and enjoy watching players they haven't seen in a while. A team can be made up of a mixture of players from different age groups.

Why Sammy for Head Coach and not Shiv? Shiv has a much better coaching record but ah suppose he may have lost point cause he doh walk around wid a notebook

imusic 2022-10-08 00:24:19

Lemme see.

Bring Sammy. shiv, Ambi, Lara, and Hooper and we’ll be better off than we are now.

Like we head beyond tuff

We had
Malcolm Marshall
De great Babu
Otis Gibson
Logie
Simmons

As previous (& the current) head coaches

How has that worked out for us?

We deserve everything that comes our way yes

lol lol

Most people live their lives accepting the status quo and feeling that they can not make a difference so are not motivated to try anything new or different. For example my grandfather was a coal miner, my father was a coal miner so I guess I will be a coal miner as well. That mindset is the norm but there are some people who dare to dream and are fiercely determined to actuate their dreams and work assiduously to accomplishing that dream.

I’m saying the suggestion floated above by westindiesfan78 and largely endorsed by yourself is NOT NEW.

Simple question: What is the ROLE of the coach?

Windiesfan78 2022-10-08 04:30:59

In reply to CITYBOY

Take is easy CITY, W.I can win matches and I will continue to support them. So basically you are telling me that Mayers, King, Hope, Brooks, with Hosein and Joseph to a lesser extent can't bat? Man hush yuh mout'. They are certainly not the best batters in the world but their stats suggest that the talent is there. The problem is consistency. Take for example Blackwood. Tempering his over aggressive approach has helped him in recent matches. It is about getting things right as a team. Very often our minnows have games to win but just can't get over the line. The batting, fielding and bowling must all click for this team to improve. It CAN be done with the right structure.

I would try Sammy because he has this knack of motivating people around him and has the respect of the group. I have the utmost respect for Shiv and he was one of my favourite players. However, I am not sure if he is the right coach for our team. This is just my opinion and this comes from what I have observed.
This team needs someone that is constantly going to push them to do their best. This is why I chose Ambrose as the bowling coach. Remember who was the bowling consultant when we won the 2016 t20 World Cup. He was tossed aside by the WICB. It is about finding the right person for the post.

Great analysis....first time someone writing sense.....more than often, posters here start with Structural change....
.As far as appointment of coaches are concerned...my opinion...let there be proper advertisement.. with criteria set....best coaches be selected with proper performance clause...time duration be two years...with renewal clause...only after evaluation of team performance.....power comes with rights and liabilities.... performance of players are evaluated after every series, then same way performance of Head coach, batting , bowling and fielding coaches performance must be held accountable for the performance of team...same way selectors should be held accountable...

As far fitness and discipline is concerned...these players are professional...a set of fitness rules ought to be in place....equal for all...board
can give players a guideline but as professionals the onus are upon players...board should deal with each player with bias and/ or favour...

Sammy and Chanderpaul should be our two coaches.

Bring one of ambrose and Walsh as the fast bowling coach, and bring back Mushtaq as spin coach.

You mean white or red ball coach? Or both?
The incremental progress in our red ball team is worth the risk?
Shiv gonna tell Braffit to bat slower?

sudden 2022-10-08 12:03:45

We are forever looking for a white knight to come along and save us.

What does it say about us as people that some believe that our players would listen to a white coach more so than a black one and there is v little if any push back?

Truly, we deserve to be where we are

4. Find a competent batting coach that will teach our minnows how to play spin and consistently rotate the strike

For the tour of Australia, they should have got in contact with Hooper or Omar Phillips to use facilities and get some coaching off them in Oz conditions.

6. Have our players stick to a strict diet and training routines to keep them fit

That should be a requirement as part of the criteria to be given a retainer contract, domestic or international.

I really appreciate the feedback in this thread. As per usual, politics is always a part of the decisions made by CWI. The biggest problem for the board would be financing. Without proper investment in West Indies cricket, it is going to be very difficult to move in the right direction. Although each country representing the West Indies is divided by a body of water, one can admit that cricket brings the Caribbean together and I wouldn't have it any other way.
The CPL, Regional 4 day competition and Super 50 are all tournaments which showcase the talent within the Caribbean. Outside of the CPL, interest has certainly waned over the years in the longer formats. I remember the days when a match between Trinidad and Barbados would have a full crowd at Kensington Oval or the Queen's Park Oval. Sadly, those days are no more. Players are greeted by empty seats and this was pre COVID.
For interest to increase, our team needs to start winning again consistently. I believe the majority of posters on this board are true fans of the West Indies. This team may not be the force it used to be during the glory years but it certainly can move in the right direction as a start.
