Time to move on

hen we get over the disappointment of a second consecutive poor showing at a World Cup by WI, let us try to be constructive rather than merely critical.

1. I agree that captain and coach should examine their role and determine whether or not it is in the best interests of WI cricket that they tender their resignations.
2. CWI should evaluate what has gone wrong with the fundamentals of our cricket. To me, an armchair observer, these appear to be as follows:
a. They have been continually debasing our FC competition by agreeing to overseas tours during that competition that are convenient for the hosts but not for WI.
b. As Pollard has been saying, we need a regional T20 competition that is independent of the CPL party
c. We need to instil a greater sense of discipline in players
3. The players who have been picked should examine their personal performances on a world stage and realise that they did not perform to an average international standard. Players must realise that doing well at franchise level financially is not a guarantee that they will do well at international level. perhaps their solution may be:
a. greater recognition of the importance of playing for country and difference between playing for country and playing for club even if latter is more financially beneficial
b. realise that if money is the only thing important to you, then by all means maximise your income by playing for as many leagues as you can get work for but dont treat playing for country as an incidental inconvenience to your main career
c. determine what you need to do to improve your skills. No one can afford to remain static. Everyone continually works on skills to improve. The skillset from last year does not work for this year in any occupation.
4. If the WI fanbase can be measured by the contributors to this MB, maybe it is time that
a we really stop trying to be so insular by raising a player's nationality almost every time we criticize him
b we realise that performance and support have a symbiotic relationship. No one can perform well before an empty gallery. Maybe we should try to make the effort to get out of our houses and comfort zones when cricket is being played in our country and give some encouragement to the players and let them know that their efforts are appreciated. After all, cricket is a visual form of entertainment
c we realise that almost everything in life is cyclical so we should stop harping on the good old days or at least remember that before the 1980s we were not necessarily at the top of the heap in test cricket. Quit the perpetual comparisons with the bygone era and just encourage the current crop of players to be the best they can be to see how far they can go without having that chip on their shoulders that they may not be as good as the players of more than 30 years ago.
West Indies cricket. Arise!!!

Boss its not more 20/20 cricket that is going to make you better at 20/20 cricket. That was absolute Rubbish talk about establishing another T20 cricket league apart from CPL. The problem is that the cricketers cant play decent cricket and that's why they are poor at the T20 rubbish.

Everyone can hit a ball or bowl it.
How that is used is fundamentally what is wrong with our cricket.
We are poor decision makers, we ignore the technical nuances of batting and bowling in matches, plan like amateurs and lack strategic long haul thinking and leadership.

Ireland and Scotland buss we ass because they were better at that. Clearly we have more naturally skilled players. We are not teaching enough of the above in our junior cricket. Practice is a net session and some drills.

Our batsmen only know one way sah, voops-and-out (no pun intended) because that is what allows them to enrich themselves and feed their family ....
