FORMER West Indies Cricket Board (now Cricket West Indies) director Baldath Mahabir believes a new West Indies coach will not change the fortunes of the regional cricket team, saying West Indies cricket needs restructuring in order to see changes in results.

Phil Simmons announced his resignation as head coach on Monday. In his most recent stint, Simmons was the coach of the team from 2019-2022.

His decision to resign came just days after West Indies failed to advance to the Super 12s of the 2022 International Cricket Council T20 World Cup in Australia.

Mahabir doesn’t think a new coach will help.

“No (it will not make a difference). They may be able to move the needle a little bit in the upper direction, but I can’t see anything major happening unless we fix the foundation of West Indies cricket.”

The right structure MUST be in place to pick the right coach. The problem is that we waited too long to make changes, now the change came and will be gone with changes to be made, leaving our boys short changed in a changing world. Should that change change the course of West Indies cricket, only a change will suffice.

for sure, change of coach will have little or no effect on result, what needs to be change is the director of cricket operations, the seemingly untouchable Jimmy Adams, also the biggest detriment, is the way reginal cricket is been run and the way teams are selected, if these ills are not looked in to and cured, oh also the fact that there is not enough top class competition for our young cricketers is just some of the symptoms

The players arent good enough. Its as simple as that. The current WICB set up is the best it ever has been in the history of WI cricket. Its certainly better than when were were winning during the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. Its not the board..its the players.
