A talented Kaisoman once had a song similarly captioned. I am inclined to believe that WI cricket should well ask itself the question, because it is very much at mission critical in striving to exist as a viable entity.
From a purely cricket perspective it needs to map out:
(I). what type of player do I want and who is truly interested in participating in our project moving forward
(Ii). What style/type of cricket do we want to play
(iii). What team structure (management; training; environment, ethos etc.) is required to achieve (I) and (ii);
(Iv). How do we realigned out cricket competitions to meet the objectives (I) and (ii)
(V). How do we realigned our developmental programs to align with (i) and (ii)
(Vi). How can our corporate governance allow us to truly insulate the cricket operations from the administration of the team
(VII). How do we systematically and strategically get stakeholders back on board fully and tangibly supporting
You cannot row a boat down a river unless you have a sense of direction and everyone is rowing in the same direction.We talk a lot about the playing XI and the relative talent or lack thereof of players, but really it is about getting the best team on the park, that has a sense of identity, that has a passion to play and that will give of their best every time and leave the results to take care.
Nothing I have said puts a dollar value on what players should be allowed to earn, but a successfully functioning team has to be valuable to the long term financial viability of all the players involved.
