TO BE FAIR.....WISDEN WASN'T EVER REALLY FANS OF THE WI. Remember when david frith was editor(in the 80s), and virtually every state of the game story was dedicated to bashing the WI world beating brand and making subtle and not so subtle overtures to get PW Botha's SA back among the cricketing establishment? If it wasn't for the BCCI, PCB and WICB's staunch rejection of sports before politics, sa would have been back by 1980

What is this cricket world becoming ?

They provided the Wisden Trophy for cricket between England and WI back in '63.
It was he highly prestigious trophy behind the Ashes.
This is a new generation of Wisden Editors

true.....but no other publication did more to denigrate the WI brand of cricket in the 80s. The misconception that the WI bowled most deliveries at the heads of batsmen is almost certainly there's. When fellow cricketers were asked where the WI bowled, they said, and rightfully so, that most of the short deliveries were at the chest or ribs, which can be protected if you're good enough and are deliveries which are still not limited today by legislation. Wisden is trash. I only read them because they're the only free cricket journal with decent writing. But i could never respect them as a publication.
they're actually a lot fairer now. For example, in 2009, when Bowden gave Roach out to Bollinger in the final test in perth, when the WI needed 30 runs to win, and roach and garvin tounge were both past ten(Roach was 17 and Toungue was on 23), and the WI were the favorites, with two set batsmen. Roach didn't edge the ball and hotspot never picked up an edge, Bowden gave it out inexplicably. Wisden were surprisingly very critical of the decision and the umpiring the WI received throughout the series, which in my opinion cost us a win or a very tight draw.

True but they did not compare to British daily newspapers.
they were brutal and their assault was on a daily basis.
So too some commentators. Most long gone from this side of hell/.

that's true......i remember reading some old english news-paper articles from the 80s and early 90s........hoss it had a lady write that children of immigrant backgrounds withdraw enthusiasm when they play for england....it was an attack on devon malcolm in particular. Truly nasty

Nasty is kind and a compliment.
