We knock CWI but the Emerging players

powen001 2022-11-05 18:03:34

are showing some glimpses of ROI here.

Wickham with the bat.

James with the ball.

The problem is that they will remain at the 'emerging level' for the next 10 years..and not all their fault

The WC 19 champions of 2016 was supposed to be the backbone of all of the WI formats today....but

Well said Narps.

A simple glance will show most other teams having steady and consistent players coming through and getting past the hump of 20-24 better than ours.

I hope you are wrong but this truly deserves some deeper conversation

I trust we will make the effort...

And the few that make it, will get snapped up by the T20 leagues and that would be it

When I said Wickham for example needs to be drafted in the Barbados national squad...nuff ppl here and other places told me leave him where he is....hello... there is no Academy squad in the FOUR day tournament.

Any young batsman with a 40+ batting average in List A SHOULD BE PLAYING FC cricket....WI batting too poor nowadays.

Agreed, but this is the first time he is making runs at this level.

He is gaining experience at this level

He has earned a spot where he is playing, you should stop Jumping and Waving, you coming accross like a Trini.

lol lol

Was saying the same thing as you. Some people just can't see talent and see the advancement in the youth game. I started a thread about this earlier in the year about him not being in Bim's 4-day team. Just to give him more playing experience.

Barbados keep overlooking talent that England gets it's hands on. Bim does not get them into the national team but continue with the same name brand players. Players who show no improvement year after year.

If the national boards aren't giving those guys opportunity to play in their red ball sides, what's the best way to overcome this? Mandate some kind of quota in the starting XIs?

Right now a potential opening bat (Bethel) and fast bowler (Simmonds) being fast tracked to England. Which young bat is Bim being fast tracked to gain experience. Better be carful or England will make another move. Seems like Bim is the minor leagues for England. Mia needs to get involved lol lol

we need clones of Kanhai to replicate what he did for Jamaica. wink

I hear ya. If BCA was clever they'd make note of any national with dual citizenship and fast-track them to at least one national match and try to get them in the WI fold before they get poached by ECB.
CWI can schedule a one-off T20 against USA or something and lock the eligibility right there and then.

Shoot, throw a wrench back at England and invite Mike Atherton's son to play for WI against USA (or whoever) right now.

Aggressive A tours fellas, aggressive A tours.
For like 3-4 years. That’s what will make a squad

You need to follow these youngsters, not everything you hear is the truth.
Narper wanted me to post updates on Jacob, his bowling has come around, he did not have a good 2022, he is no longer part of the English Lion, and is not been part of Warrickshire first squad.

CWI in fact kept Wickham as reserves in under-19 World Cup...despite his good performance...after injury to a player...he came into team...scored heavily....
Despite, this poor administration, poorer selection policy...these players are showing class.... cupboard never empty.....

Wickham and Edward are temporary replacements for Amory and Carmichael who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are undergoing a period of isolation. A COVID replacement can be temporary, in that once the player has recovered he would be eligible to return to the squad in position of the player that replaced him.

Have seen Bethel play many times and while he might be out of touch right now that does not mean he wont work out his problems. Still would rather see him walking out for Bim and the WI than England or whoever else.

not totally true, Kevin hand or foot was broken and missed all but one trial match for selection to the team.
he was lucky to be on the reserve team and was selected as a replacement player during covid. My guess is that if he was able to participate in all the trial matches, he would make the team.

Pacy 2022-11-08 15:37:03

I see better footwork among the youngsters than the seniors.

We differ, I will enjoy him, where and whoever he plays for.
If Barbados was at it alone yes, but with all the stones throwing at that small Island players, why should youngsters from the Island, do like you and I, and do what best for them?

Dont think its this black an white an issue.

Life as we know it almost everywhere has changed...Post COVID (PC) means some honestly interesting times.

If people dont jigg and re jigg their old tired systems then they will be left behind...

a word to the wise is sufficient.

Was changing way before covid. Just a lack of eye for talent and development. Look Kyle in team while some
youngster at home watching him make spit again.

The Bajan selectors are going to take real stick for going outside the squad and picking Kyle Hope who didnt even perform in the trials or local 50 over competition.

Here was a wonderful opportunity to blood 2 or 3 youngsters although how Kyle Hope could be picked over an in form Shayne Moseley truly amazes me.

For real...

after I was so pissed about the Carter pick...

what are they hoping for...the obvious lack of experience in the team?

The CWI emerging players have more grit in them than MOST of ours in the Pride team it appears.

just an observation

jen 2022-11-10 21:05:30

The fact that these emerging players, some with zero first class experience, can still rub these seasoned players, show how bad off our Cricket is.

It seems to me like majority of our Cricketers are content with being first class Cricketers season after season until they're of age....
